I just had my FIOS installed today and I'm confused about how the router works. I've always had cable so I don't understand how it works...

I was under the imperssion that the fiber optics was converted to coaxial and came into the building that way. The weird part is that they also had to connect the router to the phone line.

The back of the router is hooked up to a coaxial cable line and a phone line...

Why?

I've done some research and it appears that the internet is coming in from the vdsl2 line and the coaxial is there to allow the router to output data to the tv's set top box.

I read through the manual of the router and it appears that this router can achieve internet connectivity through vdsl2 or coaxial, so if they have to hook up a coaxial to output data to the set top box, why didn't they just set it up to receive internet from the coaxial?

I was a little concerned when I saw him hooking up the phone line because I thought that was just regular dsl and was slow. I'm getting 20Mb/s down which is what I'm paying for so i guess all is well.

It just seems a little odd that they hooked it up with coaxial and vdsl2
