okay i've taken the plunge and removed minefield rc1 from my install, and found a ppa for the actual release. i installed, but having a few issues with it, first issue is when i quote some one who has used a the img tags to display a picture, the message response box (in advanced reply) will display the image and i can't seem to remove it!

attachment.php?attachmentid=203870&stc=1&d=1301991065

the second issue i seem to be having, is rendering, maybe i'm just use to the way chrome does it, but ff 4's rendering looks a bit "archaic":

chrome:
attachment.php?attachmentid=203872&stc=1&d=1301991350

Firefox 4:
attachment.php?attachmentid=203873&stc=1&d=1301991350

dunno, the text seems a bit "jagged" and the outlines appear to be "bold" compared to those in chrome/chromium...did i grab a bad compile of Firefox 4 for ubuntu?

this is the ppa i used:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/firefox-stable/ubuntu/

and this is the command i used:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox

in the first screenshot, i included the "about" page from help, i'm pretty sure i'm running the actually release of 4.0 and not a pre/beta/RC, cause those all called it "minefield" when they were installed, but i didn't use it very much cause it would often crash or be incredibly slow so i can't recall if it had these problems or not. has any one else had these problems (with ubuntu or another distro?)

Can't really see anything through the horrible jpeg compression :/

But what did you expect? Firefox 4 is a stupid Windows port. It also has some really poor ideas on how it should implement CSS. Like how it chooses high contrast shades for the 3d border instead of something more subtle, which messes with pretty much any layout.

The first problem is solvable though. Click the A/A in the top right to turn off the wysiwyg editor.

Is it a Windows port? I've found it to be very good on Linux. Its much faster than chromium, opera and FF3.6 in my experiences so far. Not for everyone I suppose.

All of the features were developed for Windows, which were then (sloppily) ported to Linux 4-5 months afterwards. I don't think the Linux version even got the cheap hack of a menu button it has now until beta 7 or 8. Even now they don't even look like the same browser.

i saved them as "png", must've been the kde/kwin snapshot program that fudged them, cause i didn't edit them after taking it. (used the "current desktop" option vs taking an entire one of the dual monitors).

i take it the "wysiwyg editor" is a FF specific thing as it doesn't appear in chrome
honestly didn't even notice it was there

It used to be available in Chrome, but OCN removed it for some reason.
If only FF4 got a bit more attention on GNU/Linux. Chromium is much better, but lacks too many features simply because it hasn't been around long enough.

I'm using this build of FF4 which has quite a bit of patches and pgo optimization. Trying the best I can to make up for lack of attention.
