Firefox download issues.

I'm having a small issue with Firefox 3.5.5. Everytime I download a file, the size is always 0 KB. Also, whenever I try to run an install file I downloaded with Firefox, there's a pop-up saying "program.exe is not a valid Win32 application". However, when I download with IE7, it works perfectly fine. I'm guessing that it has to do with the way Firefox scans the file for viruses everytime you download something. I'm running Norton Internet Security 2010 -- please don't laugh, I got it off a friend for free. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Well if you think its Firefox scanning go to about:config and find browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone and toggle to false.
Could be Norton scanning before the file saves. Nod32 is having a problem like that in thew lastest build. Try disabling norton if turning off Firefox scan doesn't work.
Use AVG Free instead of Norton. I hate any mainstream antivirus (except AVG).
