So I'm trying to build a new computer, and I'm not sure if the parts that I'm piecing together are good deals (I'm big on things being cost effective and saving). I was considering waiting until Ivy Bridge came out, but my computer is pretty old and I feel like I should upgrade now, instead of waiting until (at least) Q2 2012. All things considering, the only thing I'm really set on is the CPU.

CPU: i5-2500k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072&cm_re=i5-2500k-_-19-115-072-_-Product $220
Case: ??? Possibly this combo deal for CPU + Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.683496
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr III POWER Edition Already owned $0
PSU: Current 650W $0
MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131703&Tpk=P8P67%20PRO Not sure if I should get a p67 or z68 , this board was recommended to me ~$200
RAM: Whatever on sale: $50-90
Cooler: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Sleeve-RR-B10-212P-G1/dp/B002G1YPH0/"]http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Sleeve-RR-B10-212P-G1/dp/B002G1YPH0/[/ame] $35
HD: Optional (~$100)
DVD: Optional (~50)
OS: Optional (Windows 7 -$100)

Thanks for the suggestions so far, the biggest issue I'm having is figuring out which case and MB to buy, since I haven't bought one of those before.

Yeah I'm shooting for at least 8 gigs of RAM, but they're all fairly cheap and people have been recommending the Corsair Vengeance 8GB, like the one ryanbob1234 posted. So I'm probably going to get one of those.

I would stick with ASUS for the motherboards. As for a case, can you let us know how much you would be willing to pay so that we can help you better choose one that is best for the money?

I'd probably say $75-175 for a case, assuming it makes a noticeable difference compared to one that's cheaper. I'm not sure how big of a difference a good case makes when it comes to air circulation and overall temps, compared to just pure aesthetic value. I know that any new case beats this ugly, tiny one from dell though.

Your first suggestions are fine. The Blackhawk is a very good case, with better airflow than a CM 690 II stock.

Asus P8P67 Pro is an awesome mobo and will allow for OCing and 2x cards.

For a HDD get a Samsung Spinpoint F3. It's only $65 so it's very good price/performance.

8GB of G Skill Ripjaws will be plenty for you.

The Spinpoint is only $49.99 at newegg right now.

There are lots of good boards for that.
ASRock P67 EXTREME4 $168 Shipped.

GIGABYTE GA-Z68X $148 Shipped.

The aforementioned Asus, plrenty of others aswell.

Do you guys think I need a cooler? I'm not going to be doing any overclocking immediately, but I assume its recommended? Also, sorry about how my links look, I've just been using the "Insert Link" button

Everything looks solid. The SB K chips beg to be OC'd and the 212+ will let you do overclocked up to 4.5-4.7Ghz. You can also put quiet fans on it so that's also a plus over the the stock cooler which would be quite loud.

Yea, just get a Hyper 212+ and if the stock fan is too loud, slap a Gentle Typhoon on it. You'll be able to get to 4.5ghz easy.

I wish I knew when the CPU and Blackhawk case combo will end, so I know how long I have to finally pull the trigger and buy. Is a mid tower going to cause a problem in terms of spacing? I know in my current case my Frozr III 570 barely fits, but its a stock dell case...

So I'm pretty much set with everything except deciding on a case. I'll do the motherboard and CPU combo instead, and buy the case separately. The Blackhawk is the front-runner so far, but I'm debating if I want to spent $50-100 more for a better one ($200 total for a case), since I might as well.

Also, should I forgo the 212 cooler for the H50 on sale? http://www.corsair.com/cooling/hydro...pu-cooler.html
