First Intel Build : Recomend me a CPU?

230 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Icekilla
First Intel build, ordered and got me a E8500 but i might take it back if it wont work in this board. Ive got hold of a eVGA 122-CK-NF68 for £30 and wanted to know a few things :

1. Will my E8500 go to waste in it?
2. How will my E8500 OC with that board?
3. Is the E8500 even supported? ( E8500 is 45nm right?? )
4. If the E8500 is a no go what CPU do you guys recomend??

Ive got the motherboard and im not gonna get rid of it as im on a very very tight budget.

Regards

yeah it will work in that mobo shouldnt be to bad i would imagine you could push around a 470 FSB on that thing.
A BIOS update will support a 45nm dual. But not a 45nm quad.
At least, that's how it is for my 650i, I would assume it's the same on a 680i.

i'd rather go for a 750i chipset motherboard, because they support 45nm quads...

but it seems to be that u already have the mobo...

hmm... maybe u can push the E8500 to 3.8GHZ I guess... maybe 4GHZ if you are lucky...

Remember to get the latest BIOS update for the motherboard...
