overclocking a q6600 on P5Q pro. (with Transcend 667 MHz ram 5-5-5-15 (1.8v) )

i can get stable oc upto 2.7 GHz (300x9) with vcore 1.2 v

after that,..whatever i do,..i cant get the pc to even boot.

i have tried to increase the vcore till about 1.4v but still cant boot with 333x9.

what seems to be the problem?

1)should i further increase the vcore?
2)is the the ram bottle necking? should i overclock it before the cpu?
3)currently everything other than the fsb, multiplier and vcore is on auto.should i change something there?

please help

The ram auto OCs with higher sb. Turn Vcore off auto. Turn off alot of the Bios options.

And your ram do look a little ancient. I have no idea if it would push 333 fsb... What cooler do you have?

There are many factors in OCing, make sure to read the noobie thread as well as that thread on P5q series. You might get alot of answers from there.

add a little bit of voltage to your North Bridge/FSB

you using a stock hsf? get a better cpu cooler! That ram should be good for 3ghz (333x9).

Set the NB strap to 333 and the Ram speed to the lowest setting. Then set the NB voltage to 1.26v, the PLL to 1.52v and the FSB Termination voltage to 1.28v. Then continue OCing.

one more thing,..i am currently using 2x1 GB + 1x2 GB ram sticks.

can that cause problems in OCing?
Yes it can. I would remove the 1x2Gb and try OCing first.

well turns out the ram was indeed the bottleneck.

after setting the fsb:ram ratio to 1:1 and upping the dram voltage to about 1.9 i was able to reach 3.0 GHz (333x9) on stock cooler.

the temps seem to be high right? must get a external cooler asap
