Okay, here are the details.

DO NOT TELL ME TO RMA IT. THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF ME POSTING THE LENGTHLY POST>_<

We have an 8800GTS640mb EVGA card, used. I installed the drivers for it, (and have tried other versions, that is not the problem.) and put the card in. I then plugged the card in, and started up.

Right at my 680i screen, I have lines running down the screen. The same ones as the Windows SS. Once in windows, Vista correctly tags the card as an 8800GTS, and proceeds to install a VGA Generic Driver for it. Despite the fact that drivers are present.

GPU-Z reports a 8800GTS, but nVidia Control Panel does not open, and EVGA Precision Tool says that, "No Supported Hardware Detected."

Opening up the Device Manager, there is a little Exclamation Point in a Triangle /!\\ next to NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS. Opening the properties, I see,

Quote:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
Checking for solution crashes. Problem code is "0000002B".

I flashed the bios to the Stock one, (As far as I know, it wasn't modified to begin with.) No change.

What to do?

THE COMPUTER IS NOT AT FAULT. MY 9600GSO WORKS FINE.

I want to know AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Please tell what you know.

Please read the big, red text at the bottom of my post. I am simply trying to figure it out before returns are made.

I read it, that's why I said just in case, just a suggestion.

Okay, sorry, but I am not looking for an RMA. A return will be made if needed, but I want to FIX it.

1. get latest drivers 2 uninstall all drivers .. 3restart pc clean cc cleaner then defrag..
4 restart pc 5 intstall new driver .. before all that shut down pc and re check all wires to vid card

above all go to nvidia web site for the diver's and shut off vista update first
have you tried driver sweeper before installing drivers?

That's what I was going to suggest.

* Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall.
* Reboot your PC in Safe Mode.
* Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean.
* Analyse lists all the entries possible to remove, cleaning removes the entries selected.
* More drivers can be selected for the same cleaning process.

Do that and reinstall the drivers. If that doesn't work, I'd say your card is broken.

since you don't want to rma, put some liquid paper on the yellow lines.
Try Using Driver Cleaner Professional then reinstall the drivers. Make sure the card is not damaged and the PCI-E slot is clean. Make sure the power cable is plugged in all the way. Good luck
1) Monitor temps with rivatuner. If temps go above 80c, increase fan speed to 100%.

2) If your temps are fine, your card is dying. I know you don't want to hear it, but you need an RMA.
Wait, I just saw this

HARDWARE FAILURE

Return the card or RMA for new one

Ugh, thanks for actually noticing that it wasn't driver failure. I figured it was hardware, probably a DVI failure or one of the memory chips failed. I just wanted to know if it's fixable.

This happened to my 9600GT, except it only happened in 3D mode.

You've got a faulty card man. EVGA offers a great warranty. Call them up and get yourself an RMA number and send in the card for a new one.

I concur.Artifacts at post indicate hardware failure, as the drivers haven't been loaded yet.

See this web site: http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html

They show that the vertical lines are probably bad video ram chip.
Not sure you'd want to fix that yourself...
Sorry bro...hey look at the bright side...they might upgrade your card for you!
