Folding on an Eee?

406 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  JEK3
I am buying a used Eee (the 4G model), and would like to fold on it when not traveling.

One question: It has a Mini-PCIe connector. I can get a Mini-PCIe to 1X PCIe adapter (with a ribbon cable extension). Could I use this to, say, hook up my 8600GT (which is currently sitting in a box, unused)? Power would not be an issue, as the adapter has a plug for an external PSU.

I don't really think so.

It may work as the [email protected] client doesn't need a ton of bandwidth. If you get it going I want pictures.

It should work, but it seems like a lot of effort for the little production that the 8600GT puts out. But don't let that stop you

Yes, but this is OCN, where people spend many hours (and dollars) trying to get a few more MHz or FPS. Besides, the card is currently producing exactly 0 ppd right now.

Thats the best way to look at it.

DO IT!

Would look pretty darn cool and would definitely be a big bonus to the e-peen.

Does the 1000HE have this? I have a 9600GSO I am not using hehe
I say go for it. I know folding works in a PCI-e 1x slot, but I have no idea about the adapter part. If you get this working, you definitely need pictures.
OK, I found this: http://maximumoverclock.com/?p=4 which shows it won't work on a Mac. I am still considering doing this on my non-Mac hardware. Give me a couple weeks to get funds/parts.
I just got the Eee today, but there is a problem. Mine falls into the large group of Eee's that doesn't have the Mini PCIe connector (the spot is there, and the pads on the mobo are already tinned to solder one on, they just stopped putting them on). I still think it is doable based on my research. It will just be about two weeks before I can work on it, at which point I will resurrect this thread and show pics.
