I am currently in the middle of switching from ddr4 to 5. Have a z690KP at the ready but keeping my 12900k for now. Do you think I have a chance of getting xmp to work with a 12900k?

Very unlikely that you will get it running by just enabling XMP on a 12gen CPU with z690 board.

I think the 13900 has a stronger imc than 12900 so that shouldn't be the limiting factor, my issue with the Hero would be the fact that it has 4 dimms, so usually is much harder to reach higher frequencies.

Well, I just heard and read that z690Hero does max 7600DDR5, z790Hero 7800Mhz, z790Apex 8000Mhz, but I'm not sure if it's true.

I've seen the Apex do way higher than 8k, if the Hero has been doing 7600 then as long as your 13900 is solid I would assume yes then? Kind of what the OP was saying to be though, XMP might not be as easy as 1 click. If your going to basically max out the board you're probable going to have to tinker with voltages.

I mean straight out of the box that on xmp profiles z690 supports max 7600 / z790 7800Mhz / z790Apex 8000Mhz, all without Oc.
