Origin games require Origin to run.
There was a modified launcher for Battlefield 3 at one time, but I'm unsure if it still exists / functions.

My point is that once your Origin account is banned, you're locked out of all the games tied to it (or at least the modern titles).

I completely remove origin from my computer, and my games run.

I hope they don't do anything if you just used the code once. I got the Origin survey email, used my code to get Sim CIty4, and that's that, not my fault they screwed up which games can and cannot be redeemed. If they ban my account I'll never install that awful software again.

I actually saw this on Slickdeals earlier this morning at 1 AM and managed to get 5 games before the coupon died. Haven't been banned yet, games are still there.

Oh well, I haven't even used Origin in months.

I got $5 on EA saying oops, "our bad", and letting people keep the games. EA is not that stupid, this would be extremely bad PR for EA if they made a simple mistake and punish their customers for it. WEe live and learn. This has taught EA a valuable lesson, which they most likely wont make again. I believe EA will be reluctant to to punish the custy!

You can't delete your OCN account, even with threatening to sue. I think it's time people realize that you can't really delete stuff on the internet.

Anyways, will be interesting to see if Origin does anything... they don't have to ban accounts, they could just take the games off... or they could leave them and try to play the "were cool and gave you free games" card, hoping to get more customers.

Ya EA's pretty cool about this kind of stuff . The moment they start banning is the moment they start losing customers. I'm not saying how they should run their business because obviously only they know what's good for them, but when you look at it people already don't like Origin as it is. I myself am glued to Steam because everything is on Steam. If people start getting banned there's a high chance that most of them are going to quit Origin for good. Most of them are going to be butthurt kids because they can't see that EA was trying to do something good for them and they took advantage. I did also just to see how far I could take it, but not enough to have half the Origin library.

I'm completely expecting them to do mass bans on the accounts made just for using the code though. That seems like a no brainer if they're going to do any banning.

How can you expect for them to do this? The code was 100% legitimate for completing a survey or whatever it was. They have no clue which people actually got the code legitimately or not.

I smell a lawsuit if they try to ban everyone's account who used the code considering they were from a legitimate survey or email or whatever.

It isn't a question about getting the code legitimately. Perhaps they won't ban the accounts with one or a few, but if an account was made strictly for using the code and it has 10.. 20.. 30 games, I'm totally expecting them to ban it. Maybe they won't, but I would be surprised if they didn't.

I would agree with you that if an account has more than one game using that code then it may get banned. I thought you were saying that you thought EA would ban every account that used the code even for one game.

I just find it ridiculous though that EA screws up and they are most likely going to put it on the consumer. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

It's not $$$, because again, those people were not going to buy those games anyways. It only happened because they were free. When price hits 0, quantity demanded is virtually unlimited. Ea is not "losing money" on purchases that never would have occurred in the first place.

The code is legit and can only be used once, until someone figured out how to exploit it.
I'm pretty sure that if you are the only one who did this, you will get banned, but are they gonna ban all those who used the exploit? We will see, EA is famous for banning people without any reason.
