They've already lost the money on the downloads, and in the overall scope of things, it was a trivial amount of bandwidth costs.

EA's best play is to leave the games, issue a "went further than planned, but it's on us" statement, and permanently move a couple games (ME1 and DA:O would be a good combo, adding BF3's base game to that around BF4's launch) to free via origin but write the code where they need Origin to launch. This would give them some good PR, and give Origin a solid foothold to compete with Steam.

If this is the same code posted in the PC Gaming section of OCN, I didn't even get a chance to use it since Origin was so buggy I couldn't change between menus.

I'm talking about the cost to the consumer:

  1. Add to card
  2. Apply Promotion Code
  3. Total: $0.00
I'm aware of the resources that it will take for EA to distribute the games. It's not really much; it won't cripple the company. I doubt it would even be material for a company of that size.

From what I understood from EVILNOK, he was implying some people would have purchased those games at one point or another.

I've bought several games over time with Origin and I have also used this $20 code. If I get banned, I'm done with EA. I see no reason to be penalized for their screw ups. Make your choice EA, because I'm sure like me, many people will take this stance as well. If you wish, remove the games from the accounts. No banning!

My point was to get those games (at least without abusing a code) you have to pay money. Not that Ea would be "losing money" more that it just doesn't seem like something EA is going to let slide.

I doubt they can ban everyone.

. Letting people keep these would be a good will gesture. Taking them away is going to utterly hurt their image in the eye of gamers and could be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Maybe they should open an amnesty and have a "pay what you want for your loot" and open up voluntary payments to legitimise what people got?

Also, they never do epic sales in the UK/EU. They never do discounts like this here either

Lets be realistic here. How many hits my thread alone got then the rest of the net after. No way in hell they will be able to ban most of Origin's users.

As if millions of people exploited this. And then again, it's much more likely that they will just remove the games and revoke the keys.

Remember the Recycle Bank EA code fiasco a couple of years ago? I can't remember but didn't EA end up not doing anything?

The scale of this exploitation was huge. This was posted in so many different websites, some of which had more viewers/posts than our own thread. May not be millions but at least in the high tens of thousands.

I only got 1 game, don't wanna get my account banned. I really hope nobody gets banned tho, EA is a horrible publisher & deserves this! For those that actually got every single 20$ game, congrats!

I actually do feel sorry for the people that legitimately got the code and can't use it because they waited. But it is not our fault, it's EA's. First of all, you put the ability to get expensive software for free in the hands of consumers, only an idiot is not going to take advantage of it. Second, EA is the one that screwed up with using the same code for every user/survey. Third, EA screwed up again by disabling the code completely instead of just immediately limiting it to once per current account, so as to prevent people from creating new ones to still be able to get multiple games.

I think i did do the survey too last weekend but i didn't buy anything cuz i am saving for a new build. It'll be interesting to see how things fold out if EA isn't excusing the people using Origin cuz it's always their end and their fault.
