Forcing ICC profile - HELP PLEASE

5490 Views 17 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  sunkenplanet
Ok not really expecting anyone to answer this as i have posted this question absolutely everywhere and no one seems to answer or know, some help no matter what it is would make me feel much much better. Ok, the default settings on my monitor are really really bad and i don't own a hardware calibrator. I have calibrated my monitor and created an ICC profile which make it look 100x better, problem is, is that when ever i enter an application (mainly games) the gamma and color values are restored back to defaults. Now my question. Is there any way what so ever to force an ICC profile or color settings so that it works with ANY application??? I have tried color management in Windows 7, looked all over CCC, tried everything in powerstrip (still can't find out how) and am really running out of patience. I know there is a way somehow but i just don't know how. This monitor really looks to be a great monitor but has a large red tint that can only be sorted due to calibration (not a monitor problem, its due to the terrible default settings and wide gamut) Its a HP LP2475w. You don't understand how long i have been trying to solve this, i'd appreciate any help, large or small. Thanks a lot in advance.

Have you changed the "default Monitor ICC Profile" to that specific one you created?

Yes sir, clicked on set as default, went to advanced and tried setting it as device profile. All of this works until i play a game, when it is reverted back to default (maybe the graphics card drivers default?)
The only thing I can think of next is to find a LUT loader that overrides the game's instincts to load "generic pnp profile".

(or you could delete the generic profile) and then test it to see if your profile is the new default for the game or not. (make sure to back up the Generic one.)
Thanks again for your reply, glad to see someone is helping. How would i delete the "general profile" though?

They should be in this directory

\\Windows\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\color

I don't see anything to do with generic profile. Which one would it be?

Which one would it be out of this lot?

Now I guess the only way to force the ICC would be using a LUT loader.
Do you know of any decent LUT loader programs?. I really hope to get this fixed, games look terrible as they do now, but my desktop is perfect.
Try this.

I personally don't use this, but have heard some things about it. I use the LUT loader that came with my Spyder Software.

Thanks for all the advice i appreciate it man. ONE last question, if i can't get this to work and i buy a hardware calibrator, will the LUT loader that comes with the Software (like the Spyder etc.) override every profile meaning that the ICC profile it makes works for everything including games (are you certain of this?)

With my Calibrator (Spyder2PRO) it overrides fullscreen applications (games). They aren't allowed to select the default "generic PnP profile" and are forced to use the current profile only.

Most LUT loaders will force games to do that (well the ones I used in the past).

I can't get this monitor calibration wizard to work, i don't know if i'm doing it wrong or the program isn't good enough. I even clicked "overide driver level color correction" which should work although i'm not sure how to properly select the profile. I'm very tempted into getting the X rite Eye one display 2, which i heard is very very good. Do you think this will solve my problem?

Doesn't Catalyst Control Panel have options for tweaking this kind of thing? Set it up that way, and it'll work ingame.

Hopefully they have a wizard like NVIDIA's, but you can replace it with some images -- check out some webpages that explain how to calibrate it and provide reference images (the "lower brightness until the gray square is just barely visible" kinda thing).
Yes it does but it goes back to default when ever i go to play a game. I wish i could find the file that is reverting back the settings and delete it, problem is, i don't exactly know what is changing it.

Hi, I'm wondering if you found a solution. I have the EXACT same problem. Using Windows 7, have an ICC profile loaded and everything looks great except when I load games. I've been looking for an answer forever... Wonder if you found one. :]

Thanks.

just for your info, the best color calibrator right now is the Spyder series. However, if you get a spyder 2, it wil only allow you calibrate one monitor, if you get Spyder 3, you can calibrate multiple monitors at a time. DO NOT buy the Huey from Pantone, even though it ranges for half the price, it is considered by many sites as a horrible tool and a lot of people complain by green screens.

Good Luck

Yeah, I already have a calibrated icc profile though. Just having problems loading it with games. I'm sure the Spyder software might solve this, but I can't really buy software right now. :[
Any free solutions available?
