forgot how to replace gfx

hey its been about a year or more since ive had to put in a new gfx, i saved up for a 5970 which is sitting right next to me, but i kind of forgot the steps to replacing the gfx, if i remember correctly, i uninstall current drivers go into safe mode use driver sweeper to clear the remainder and then turn off, install new gpu and then install driver?

1. Go on onboard video if you have one (change the plug @the back of your computer to the onboard one)
2. Uninstall drivers
3. Go in BIOS
4. Choose PCI/integrated stuff
5. Boot to see if it's working okay
6. Shutdown and open your case
7. Plug in the card
8. Boot on your onboard video, install the drivers for your next card
9. Reboot, go in BIOS and choose PCI-e or w/e it is
10. Shutdown your screen and get that plug @the back of your computer and plug it in the new GPU
11. Re-open your screen, should be working, if not, clean drivers and do that all over again

He has an X58 board, there is no onboard chip.
