I'm looking for an upgrade for my Intel stock cooler (3570k). I will receive my Fractal Core 1000 this week and want to upgrade the CPU cooler too. I've done some research and Anandtech said the following in their review of the Fractal Core 1000:

"Finally, that low heatsink clearance did rear its ugly head when I went to close up. Our Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is by no means an extravagant cooler or even one of the largest ones on the market, but its 159mm height caused the tops of the heatpipes to press against the side panel, bowing it outward a little. I was still able to secure the panel, but end users are going to want to look into a smaller tower-style heatsink like the Xigmatek Loki to really maximize the Core 1000."

Does someone with a Core 1000 have the Hyper 212 Evo installed and can confirm that the heatpipes will press against the side panel?

Thanks in advance!

I have the i5 3570k along with the asrock z77 extreme 4 motherboard along with the hyper 212 + (not evo) and i am having no problems with my system, the heatsink was installed as it should and i am having no problems and no complaints - it does not press by the side panel - . i overclocked my cpu to 4.3ghz and i am getting 57~61 c with prime95.

In a Core 1000, or the HAF 922 in the sig?

You know, narrower cases like the Core 1000 which only have a 92mm fan mount in the back, will definitely cause problems with the taller tower coolers if you want to close the side panel. That's just how it is, and I wouldn't try to fight it.

There are some side-blowing 120mm fan tower coolers that are shorter than the norm (~159mm like Hyper 212 series), however. Zalman CNPS10X series except Extreme are 152mm, as is the Gelid Tranquillo (though the Rev.2 SPCR review of that is not the most flattering). I don't think the Cooler Master Hyper T4 is released yet. I'm drawing a blank on other ~152mm options, but I'm sure there are more. Or maybe not.

And there are always the down-blowers and 92mm fan tower coolers, but those aren't as good.

yeh sorry i was talking about my sig rig.

It won't fit, I just measured my Core 1000 and you barely have 150 mm from the motherboard to the edge.

Before installing my custom loop, I was running a H80 mounted on the front. The only problem with that is it forces you to use only 2.5" drives on the side HDD panel as a 3.5" drive is too thick.

As for air coolers, I'm not really sure.

Not 100% sure, but looking at the hole spacing, I would have to say yes it will. Keep in mind that if you really want to use a 3.5" HDD that you have 2 ODD bays and can convert one to hold a 3.5" HDD with a simple bracket.

Xigmatek LOKI is a good cheap 92mm fan tower cooler.
Cooler Master GeminII S524 is a large top down cooler, Enermax makes a stronger one ETD-T60.
Gotta like the Macho though. [height listed as 162mm on web site]

Thermalright True Spirit (120) 160mm tall unfortunately

How tight a fit is it? I'm tempted to get one of these cheap but i have a 212 evo, will it cause much in the way of a problem? Many thanks in advanced.
