Freezing problem while playing killzone 2

Okay so my ps3 has never froze before. Today I got killzone 2 and I couldn't even fully play the opening scene of the campaign without it freezing on me. (at first it wouldn't even load, it just sat as the loading screen for 20 minuites) I first decided to delete all data I had for it (the 16mb update and the save file) after I reinstalled the update, I got to the opening cinema and right when they're on the flying transporters it froze. I began to think it was overheating, and I was about to get the YLOD. I moved it onto the floor let it sit off for a little while then attempted to play. YES! now I can play. Except, the game seems to freeze on me randomly about an hour or so into playing the game. I have to turn off the ps3 manually because at this point the controller doesn't even work. This has happened several times.

Any Ideas? Do you think the YLOD is in my near future?
(my model is the 80gb that came with MGS4, btw)

i cant say K2 has ever froze on me. nor are there issues with freezing in general with the PS3 or K2.. so this looks to be an isolated incident.

Turn off your PS3 at the back. Hold down the eject button and turn the power back on, the PS3 will sound like a vacuum for about 30 seconds blowing and dust out of the back. Just make sure all vents of the console arent blocked or in a place where heat cant escape easily. These are all just standard procedure for any system. hope it works.

if you mean the disk eject button, it didnt do anything. all that happened when i flipped the switch on was the disk that was in the ps3 was ejected. when there was no disk it just beeped at me so if im doing something wrong, let me know.

On a side note, i noticed that when the game has to load something, the sound will stop. i can still play at this point but when it has to load or i press start it freezes completely. this occurs more frequently in multiplayer. it happens every other full game of warzone.

Also, idk if it matters, but I used to have this problem a little while ago where my ps3 wouldn't load MGS4. I was pretty angry and deleted all the stuff related to it and it didn't fix. So I reformatted my ps3 and it works now, but I was pretty pissed cause I just beat GTA 4. I havent even played gta4 since then.. all my work! for nothing!
so this is really a last resort. but I dont wanna beat the game and then have to reformat because it freezes when I play online.
So any help or suggestions would RULE!

you have to hold down the eject button and turn the power back on at the back at the same time. the fans will fire up at max for 30 seconds.

also, you can back up your game save data to USB portable device before formatting. so you don't/didn't need to lose your data even when you formatted.

Oh okay thanks I'll try that now.
And I dont have a USB device that I can save it to or a flash drive, unless I can save data to my zune (which is the only USBish storage device I have)....... which is why everything gets lost. I dont have anything to put it on. :\\

Also, I was having problems with the ps3 auto cleaning, so I youtubed it, and I was doing it the way the people are doing it, but my system doesn't automatically turn on and clean. It just beeps at me and the light stays red.

I did it just like that, but it just stays red and beeps when theres no disk in, same as it would if you never turned the power off.

Apparently it only works for the 40gb and 60gb models, where as mine is an 80gb model...
*sigh* idk... its pissing me off because its really taking away from my experience..
Once it freezes it makes it hard to want to jump back into it.
also, i dont think over heating is the problem. I play on a 480i TV, i dont see how that could push the ps3 hardware at all, even if kz2 is a graphically intense game.

+rep, I never knew about this. Handy indeed.

Sounds like a hard drive issue. Maybe swap it with a friends drive and see if it happens.
