So as the title says, my Macbook frequently indexes its spotlight? I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and I have an Agility 3 in it.

I have also searched for solutions on google, but most of them require me to turn off spotlight permanently and I'd prefer not to have it disabled

Been like this since release or around October time frame.

Disable it.

There are alternatives such as Google index, or simply don't use spotlight. It is a huge tax on the system and seems semi-broken. People believe it is the number one cause of the high kernel memory usage.

Is there any reason to keep spotlight on that you really like? Say functionality or something? You can rebuild Spotlight by selecting your HD to ignore it and then having the computer re-index by removing it from the ignore list. That sometimes fixes the issue. If you want some SSD tweaks then use this article. Talks about spotlight as well.
