hey all,

i have a few questions for you
rolleyes.gif

I Want to get a completely new system (as soon as my sig rig is sold) and i have a few ideas about parts...
but not all of them.
redface.gif

things i already know i want to buy:
Intel i5-2500K
G.Skill 8 GB DDR3-1866 kit
Corsair CSSD-F120GB3-BK (120gb SSD Sata III)

but then i would still need a motherboard, power supply, gpu, case.
i want something like the Raven RV03B-W but smaller (if possible off course

)
also i was thinking about a GTX570 to replace both GTX295's.
about the motherboard...i have no idea of which is great for oc'ing.
cpu cooler is probably gonna be a D14
biggrin.gif

so as a summary...
i need some advice on:
Motherboard
PSU
GPU
case

the overall idea is to get a fast and silent build that looks sleek (preferably all black)
bring on the good ideas!

Motherboard - If you are going the 2500k route, I would recommend the ASUS p8p67-v (you can also go for the z68 if it is worth the extra money to you)
PSU - Corsair TX750, I personally prefer the HX (since it's modular, and well built) but the TX is very nice as well.
GPU - I would almost recommend saving the money and going 560 ti 448 core to save some money and then perhaps get a second down the road to sli.
case - again I love the corsair cases, the 600t looks like a real winner, and their cable management is second to none. But this part is really up to you!

Good luck

560Ti 448? is that about the same speed/strength as quad-sli GTX295's?

and the Corsair 600T...to be honest....that looks awefull
redface.gif

think i'll just go for the raven with the rotated motherboard

Go with the Asus Maximus Gene for motherboard. Very solid.

For power supply, you could get a Corsair 750w and be good for two 570s and your 2500k.

A 570 is a solid gpu, you could go with a 6970 though. Since the 7970s just came out you can get them pretty damn cheap. They also have more VRAM then the 570s. 2gb compared to 1.25gb.

Meh, case. Do what you want

Lots of mobos OC fine on socket 1155. With this socket ASRock also made a good name for itself. So many different mobos out there. What do you want from your mobo? I would suggest a 2nd gen asrock extreme 4 gen 3 mobo z68.

Psu anything corsair that is enough for your build

Case: dunno. The raven looks awesome indeed. Get it in white though

Gpu: wait a few weeks and get a factory oc 7970 with a factory bettered cooling setup on it. I mean a quad 295, that's firepower. Get one one these and buy another one when tou're bored

I would just get a cheaper set of 1600 mhz ram btw. Means almost no difference.

If your current sale gets delayed quite a bit then go for Ivy bridge ^^

seriously? Asrock is a good brand now
eek.gif

wow, i've been out of the Intel world for a bit too long i think lol

i want the mobo to OC good and run cool.
preferably in black as well, since i want a completely black build.
hence the Sapphire pure black question
wink.gif

the PSU is probably gonna be a 700w one, don't want to SLI or crossfire anymore.

and the 7970's are expensive as hell! i could get 2 GTX570's for 1 HD7970.

and about the ram...i'll go for 1866Mhz minimum, because when my oc is done, i always want to try and get better speeds and/or timings for some benchies
redface.gif

and since the prices don't really differ from those speed-differences...why not go faster

and this build is already delayed because of the slow selling.
it's like nobody wants my sig rig

The Gen3 ASRock mobos are black with gold. So would fit your build really well. Very cool colourscheme.

In tests the 7970 ref is getting close to the 6990 and 590. If you buy 2 GTX570s you will need to sell them and buy others in the future. If you buy one 7970 factory OC to about 1100 you will get a very fast and cool GPU and can easily upgrade with a 2nd one in the future. 2GTX570s will also give you much more heat and need a big PSU out of the box. But you know, it's your money

I think instead of getting 2 570's you should be able to justify a 7970, and that will perform closely to the gtx570 sli.
you could indeed ad a 2nd one later.
as for motherboards, i hear Asus is reccomended alot, but they are quite expensice,
im using the Asrock P67 extreme 6 myself, and my cpu is probably the "oc" bottleneck.
so the asrock boards are probably a good choice too.

Iwould personaly grab a big PSU for upgradablility, some like a 1kW unit, but thats up to you ofcourse.

for a case, i have no idea mate, see you dont like the 600t but i think its lovely
