The new stepping should allow for some lower operating voltages and power consumption, however, the TDP rating has not been changed.

The new Phenom II 945 and 955 Black Edition are still rated at 95W and 125W respectively. Bear in mind that AMD already reduced the TDP in previous revisions of some Phenom II CPUs.

Really want the Phenom II X2 555.

Well, AMD's strategy with the Tri-core / dual-core processors is simple. If one of their quad-core dies has a single bad core (will become tri-core) or if two cores are bad, but the full L3 cache is good (will become X2 550/555). And so on and so on.

So, the disabled cores are supposed to be bad. The demand for the 550 BE has died down a bit, so the chance to get two functioning cores becomes less and less. But, the best time to get lucky is when they introduce a new product (i.e when the first dual-cores / tri-cores came out) because they will disable the cores based on demand. So, they will be sending you a fully-functioning quad-core just to meet demand.

So, if you were to buy the Phenom II X2 555, I'd do it as soon as it comes out. Even then, it's not guaranteed at all.

Hmmm I may just pick one of these up to replace my Athlon II.....
555BE will be awesome imo. I don't care about unlocking personally, I'd rather keep those 2 cores disabled for less heat output. C3 revision should allow for higher clocks... soo maybe 4.4GHz 24/7 stable on air? Maybe!!!
I'm already digging my 965

3.8GHz with stock voltage.
