4,641MHz with Biostar TPower X58

XtremeSystems user PcCI2iminal has just posted some first overclocking results of the recently launched Core i7 920 D0 stepping 5 processor. Although his results were taken with an engineering sample CPU, they seem to be on par if not slightly better than what is achievable with the C0 stepping.

Validation

According to the results, 4,641MHz was achievable with a vCore of 1.56v and a 221MHz BClock speed. It can also be noted that the maximum Prime95 stable BClock at boot up was 222MHz with CPU VTT, PLL, and northbridge voltages at a minimum.

The setup used was a Biostar TPower X58 running beta BIOS 080015, combined with A-Data 1600MHz DDR3 and a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme-1366 RT for cooling.

It's promising, but I'd like to see alot more of those before I'm convinced that the majority will go above 4.0ghz

I like it though.

Still impressive on stock air-cooled mobo and a TRUE. I'm eyeing this chip, although after my next LGA775 upgrade I doubt I'll have any money left...

Woah what?!

Did I read it wrong? I thought it was 1.56v

edit: oh that was @ 4.6ghz. Still that's incredible!

That's the hard part for me. I want to make a new build for folding, but I don't know if I should go with the new chipset or stay with lga775, since it's going to disappear! And fully be dominated by these chips. Though, I feel like I Can keep my current rig forever until it dies... I ahte technology when I dont have money.

If you look at his sig its actually 1.05 idle and 1.25 load. The DO reision must varry voltages alot more than the CO when in iddle and load I guess. 4.1 on 1.25V is still really good but that is still with Turbo mode and a 22 multi so you can really only use one core at that speed.

w/o turbo you've still got 4ghz under 1.35v if thats the case
this is amazing!

poor amd

Very nice. If only it was mainstream, I could consider getting i7 for my next main rig.
When i7 920 D0's will be for sale?

Offtopic: 32nm Nehalem's will be available at the end of 2009?

They were on schedule for 2nd of march, delayed a bit I guess.

And yes 32nm should be available then ( but not high end chip )
