Goes Like Hell

Gainward has an interesting card in its ATI line-up. They just launched a new card Gainward HD4850 512MB DisplayPort Golden Sample Goes Like Hell edition and this might be the first and only HD 4850 card with GDDR5 memory. The big distinction between 4870 and 4850 is that first uses GDDR5 and is clocked higher, while 4850 normally uses GDDR3 memory.

Gainward has a hybrid, they have a 700MHz clocked GPU and 512MB GDDR5 memory that works at 3600MHz and uses a 256-bit bus. It comes with DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI and VGA. This is something between the HD 4870 and HD 4850 spec and it definitely has better specs than any 4850 due to its GDDR5 memory and higher clocks.

We don’t know the price at press time but this card, if overclocked to close to 750MHz core, should be able to match the performance of HD4870, likely at a lower price.

Mmm 4870 performance at ~4850 price. This should put a bit more strain on nvidia's pocket.
Don't forget your tag at the beginning of your title.

But nevertheless, very interesting.
******ed name for such a cool card. I'd like to see someone try and squeeze, "Gainward HD 4850 512MB DisplayPort Golden Sample Goes Like Hell Edition" into their specs on here. lol
This reminds me of the Dodge Omni GLH (yes, that stood for Goes Like Hell. Was a turbo built by Shelby)

If Gainward really went ahead with that then all the 4870 owners would feel ripped off.
So wait a minute...doesn't an OC'd 4850 with GDDR5 = a 4870, since that was basically the main diff between the two? And wasn't ATI trying to get the price of the 4870 dropped to current 4850 prices anyways?
I think your onto something there, but hell, I would get one if I had the money to do so

This sounds more like an under clocked HD 4870 to me. It was only a matter of time tell it happened though. GDDR5 is going to get dirt cheap in the next year to two, and eventually it will replace pretty much everything GDDR3.

Hahaha Dodge Omni was my first car in high school. I rocked that beast. Had a killer system in it that I brought back with me from Germany when my brother worked for Kenwood. Had probably one of the first RDS capable radios in the states.

The only door that opened from the outside was the hatch and rear passenger door, so after school got out I would have to get in the back and climb in to the front, then let everyone in. I still pimped it though.

lol, I had a friend that lived by these cars. (well, he had a Plymouth Horizon thrown in) I think he had 7 or 8 in a row. He would beat the snot out of them until they died and then scour the want ads for another one, lol.

Where do people even buy Gainward at? I've looked for their products in the past with limited to no success.

I'm confused

They don't share the same pcb, are they designing a new 4850 pcb?
Or are they downclocking a 4870 and renaming it to 4850 GDDR5?
How many pci-plugs will it have?

What, how????????????????????????

Ahhhhhhhhhh headache.

So, should I should hold no vested interest in this? Since they aren't even distributed here in the states that is.

wut we have here is:

the rv770 core, with 4850 voltage, not 4870.

the 4850 pcb, with one 6 pin power connector.

the core overclocked, as even the worst reference designs can go to the limits of ccc with ease.

the gddr3 replaced with gddr5, which as i'm lead to believe uses less power anyways ?
