Most new GTX 260 with 216 Shaders and upcoming GTX 280 will be based on the new 55nm chips but it looks that Nvidia does have a plan to increase the speed on the new products. Retail products based on 55nm chips are yet to be ship but we expect them in early December.

this looks why they are dropping prices man it's pretty awesome hopefully the 8x series might drop some more for the 9600GSO / 9800GT maybe they will become more expensive.

Also, Fud.

Would you rather have no new increases until a huge release. You act like they arent working at all on new products. Lets take a look the 9 series was out and being rebranded and people were complaining and oh, the GTX cards came out. Stop complaining and be happy that companies are atleast making minimal upgrades while they work on a total new product. Not everyone wants to wait forever for a new card and small increases in performance can mean alot in those cases.

With migrating such a large die from 65nm to 55nm, they may not have the yields yet to be able to increase the speeds, but Nvidia would certainly be wanting the lower cost/die so I'm not surprised to see this move. Once yields mature and the process gets smoothed out, I'm sure we'll see a higher speed bin.

Plus, if they are hoping to lunch this in time for Christmas, I should hope that they are producing these dies already since they have to be fabbed, validated, and then sent to the OEMs so that they can build the cards with the chips and then finally shipped out to the retailers. Some of the large retailers might already have been receiving shipments to stock up for the release.

I thought part of this decision was due to TSMC not being able to make enough 45nm yet. Or am I on crack?

Same here. I have until December 15, so EVGA had better get their model out soon!

God, what a ****ing stupid company.

Wow some people. Don't you understand ? A company has to compete. Plus, the only logical thing to do is to make a new chip and then shrink it. Intel does it and they seem to be doing pretty good. You dont want to start a whole new architecture with a whole new process. The point is that progress is being made. In the end we are the true winners when there is competition.

No. You don't see a 9800GTX+ beating a GTX260. SMALL increase. Mainly smaller production processes are to make more money of a particular card.
