But who dares to be the first

Acer is the first one to leak its Ion design and we´ve heard that people like Zotac might have a reference nettop design out at some point. They are not alone, there will be more of them.

Our well informed sources have confirmed that the first Ion designs should be out in Q2 2009, while others will follow in Q3. Everyone making Atom based systems is interested, but it looks like that most OEMs want to see what happens to the first one that brings the design out.

Intel is a nasty player and partners know that. The big question is, do you really want to upset Intel and possibly hurt your business in 2009?

That's a good question.
I really can't wait to see these. I've had my eyes on an atom setup for a while anyway...
Better question: Is it worth it to Intel to risk another monolopy lawsuit....
If they are only coming from North Korea again... I would say yes.
noone cares about nettops - put Ion into netbooks!

it's not fair the way intel is bullying re atom and ion, refusing to allow ion market share while refusing to put dual core atoms into netbooks
I think intel doesn't want to except the idea that hardware needs of today's public are just far behind the best and most expensive things that intel can offer. Only gamers and workstation guru's need sophisticated hardware, all the general public needs is a machine capable of surfing the internet and handling their media if they choose. A dual core atom with an ion chipset could do that. This is scary for intel, because such a set up would only cost 500-600 dollars, which means nobody would really need centrino or the mobile core2duo.

Indeed. Intel already isn't playing nice since nVidia won't take orders.
