[Fudzilla] Nvidia wants Palit's exclusivity

They are after the Chinese market

We’ve learned that Nvidia is trying to get Palit to become an Nvidia only partner. For a while now, Palit has been selling selling ATI and Nvidia cards, and it's doing a reasonably good job for both GPU makers. Palit is the big company behind many brands including Xpertvision, Galaxy and probably most famous, Gainward.

Palit is a strategically important partner, as it holds almost 50 percent of the Chinese market and it has a strong presence in the rest of the world. Nvidia is trying to sweeten the deal, all in order to win Palit’s hart only for itself, but Palit likes the fact that selling ATI and Nvidia at the same time, which probably brings them more money.

Nvidia’s sales from January are getting much better as the confidence in Nvidia is getting back, but we will have to see how the GTX275 will stand up against ATI's HD 4890 card, as this will be an important milestone, and the fact that RV740, ATI’s first 40nm card is just around the corner, doesn't help either.

Palit would be very stupid to dump ATI and go Nvidia exclusive right now hopefully they understand that.
That article is terribly typed up lol. WTH is a ''HART'' and whats ''Selling Selling'' Is that a new word for ''Superselling'' ?

lol
Fudzilla,

are their news all real?

Strange news, given that Charlie just posted this:

IT LOOKS LIKE Palit is doing the long-rumoured and closing shop in the US.

The brand, while strong in other regions, never seemed to hit critical mass in North America.

Expect an announcement about the closing soon, from what we hear, no other regions will be affected. µ

Although....if it's only China they want.... Still seems like a pointless move

Never really noticed them much TBH, recognize some of their brands, but none were ever on my wish lists...

I'd love to see some reasons for such a brash comment.

It makes perfect sense.... Partners are better off servicing a single region.

It's pretty simple really. ATI is gaining market share lately and who would you limit yourself to just selling Nvidias cards which don't have the entire market when you can sell both brands, have more of the market and only have to compete with Intel's products. I highly doubt cash-strapped Nvidia can give Palit enough of a financial perk to make going exclusive worthwhile.

Whoa..... Tawian alone accounts for $1.1B in sales!??!?!?!

22M people spent $1.1B in NVIDIA video cards!? That's $48.95 per capita!!!!!!!!

Probably 23m by now.

What's interesting to me is the US revenue decline.
I'm interested in seeing if the trend continues.

It's not that I question your assertion, but do you have any actual figures(jan09 to date?)? IIRC according to Mercury reports for the dec 07 - dec 08 period Nvidia's market share fell 1% from 64% to 63%.

I don't think nvidia is really losing any quantifiable market share per se(IE if global sales drop across the board they'll still maintain their %), ATM I think market share is moot since they're losing their arse(sell near, at or below cost) trying to avoid said market share loss(10-K).

09 may be very different. If China and Taiwan cut consumption(global downturn is affecting everyone) that could hurt really really bad (potentially)selling at a loss + low volume = not good. IMO ATI is in a better position since they seem to be generating a profit on the sale of their gfx cards even at their low price point, which is a testament to their current arch.

Cash strapped? What makes you think that? Because share prices dropped late last year? Nvidia are bloody loaded, more so than ATI. If Palit own 50% of the Chinese market, that means 50% of the Chinese tech enthusiasts trust and own Palit products.

Just as XFX decided to supply ATI cards was a great idea. People already trusted XFX products and they held a considerable market share. A lot of ATI folk jumped on board the XFX ship due to the brilliant rep they have, Nvidia are banking on the same thing with Palit. It'll likely pay off, as well.

that, and:

NO! Let's make their corporate decisions for them here on the interwebs!

IMO, Palit doesn't have much incentive to drop half its market, unless Nvidia really sweetens the deal for them. Board partners don't have a huge profit margin from the GPU's, so they'd have to cut Palit some kind of killer deal.. probably behind closed doors. It'll probably get leaked, and would likely anger other exclusive partners (cough, EVGA, cough), who might threaten to pull an XFX unless they get a break on pricing or something.

This could potentially bite Nvidia in the you know where if my voodoo crystal ball is right
