G25..manual tranny realistic?

Hi all

Question for people that has G25 + whatever driving game, and with a *real life* manual transmission car

I want to *learn* how to drive manual,( I currently drive an auto)
So I thought, I can get a crappy 2nd hand manual tranny car for ~500, drive it till I burn the clutch, then scrap it....or...get the ~250 G25, and play it on a game that has the best simulation of the manual transmission (Having engine stall, and such..)

So...is there any game that has the *closest simulation to the real transmission? Are they really comparable to the 'real thing' ? (excluding steering, braking, force feedback)

Cheers

The only game that gets even close to your specifications, IMO, is GRID...but that's more of an arcade game to me than anything.
I think nothing beats learning on a real car. Learning to drive manual is easy if you play alot of racing games.

I don't think there is a game that real. But the G25 is pretty much far away from a real car. I own both G25 and a Manual trans car, and driving simulations vs reality control wise, it's very different, especially when it comes to clutch control.

Sorry, but you can't learn to drive stick with a video game. You need to get a friend to take you out onto some back road and just teach you.

I've taught all my friends and most have it down pat in 45 minutes.
Buy a real car. No game can simulate the feeling of a real car.

that makes no since you say get grid because "his specifications" he says he wants a sim, but then you say it's "more of an arcade game" so therefore not like a sim?

But, @ OP i've never played with the G25 but GRID is not a sim and just drive a friends car, it's not as hard as it may seem, if you're a decent driver you could easily learn in 20-30 minutes and then iron it out over time

You will not kill a clutch on a tranny unless you give it hell and then some.

I Don't think any game can match the experience.
Best way to learn is to find a friend that's willing to teach you.
Other then that, best to buy an old junker with a killer clutch (meaning hard to manipulate) and start from there.
The more difficult the clutch, the faster you learn.
If you can find a Ford Escort Zx2 5speed, they have the most difficult clutches around.
That was my starter for Manual

Well it's the closest I can think of.

They won't let me drive theirs
I guess...I do have to get a manual car first..

Nah the most insane beginner clutch is a 95 Sunfire 2.4L with 290k on it. Massive slippage and the throw was all in the top half inch or so. Fart and you'd dump the clutch.
No game you will ever play will teach you the necessary things you need to drive a stick. I mean it is "realistic", but not really.

Things like starting up hill or waiting at a red light sloping downhill you cant learn from any game. Nor ebraking every time you leave the car.

.....I don't think it's for beginner...it's for the auto repair shop LOL
(Hehe, I guess you mastered the clutch control

Do what I did to learn how to drive a stick. Goto the dealership and flat out tell them you want this car with a manual and honestly tell them you do not know how to drive stick. They will do whatever they can to sell you a car, even teach you how to drive it.

I did that when I was looking to buy an EVO VIII back in 04 and it was in Seattle. Boy those hills took its toll on the clutch and tires. After I got it down, I told him I'll think about it and went somewhere else.

Do you really learn to drive a manual transmition car? I've driven both, manual and automatic, and I must say that I really prefer automatic transmition by faaaaaar. It's muuuch easier, and the car will never stop if you accidentaly release the (I don't know it's name in english) first pedal in 1st gear. ... but I guess you want to learn manual transmition because you are a fanatic of racing games, and racing games use manual transmition (to run faster), isn't it?
