Amazon.com is the internets largest online retailer, GameStop is the nation’s largest seller of used games they are now at war. Yesterday Amazon announced a new campaign to start purchasing used games from consumers for credit they could use at Amazon.com. After they made this announcement GameStop’s stock dropped a whopping 13%. This move by Amazon threatens GameStop’s greatest source of income, their used game sales, because if people start trading their games in to Amazon then GameStop has fewer used games to sale. Currently Amazon’s trade-in prices are higher then both GameStop and GameCrazy as CNET News has prepared for you to see a small comparison.

Good.
competition is always a plus. I don't think that GameStop can compete with Amazon though.....cause the 'brick-and-mortar' style is a huge cost that doesn't really pay off much.

Hopefully they will at least try. They have one huge advantage over Amazon. At GameStop you can get your games right now and then.

People have proven time and time again that as long as a company backs their products, and return shipping isn't an issue then people will go for price.

All GameStop needs to do is stop ripping off customers and lower their prices on used games.

Of all the retailers you don't want to compete with though, it's Amazon. While everyone else struggled to make sales over the holiday season, Amazon was one of the few retailers that saw an increase in sales from the previous year.
Looks like Gamestop expected their dominance in the used game market to last forever. It reminds me of Blockbuster reacting a little too late when a little upstart like Netflix started affecting their earnings.

Gamestop better do something and something quick. I'm sure they won't.
good news.
some competition will hopefully force them to pay more reasonable prices for used games.
This is good news. Gamestop has been ripping everyone off. They need to change for they are probably gonna suffer due to Amazon being badass lol
Has anybody used the Amazon trade-in program yet? I haven't but sounds so much more enticing than GameStop, paying me .22 cents a game lol
good for them. gamestop got fat and cocky from the lack of organized competition.
I like gamestop but what pisses me off with them is when I went and got my Playstation 3, I returned my playstation 2 that I had along with alot of stuff. Some of the stuff was like 20 games I had for it, 3 controllers, and some more just can't remember what all it was. Anyways they only gave me $80 for everything I had, I was like astonished about to ask them is this all I get for all this stuff I had, so the playstation 3 still costed me like $400. I am looking forward to see what Amazon can bring to the market for us, besides at home buying is becoming a very big trend and plus the way the economy is now, it will save people gas and also wear and tear on there vehicles to have to go out and get the game.

X4. For the LIQUIDATION prices...

Honestly, all B&M stores are overcharging any of their games. Ever noticed hardly anyone is shopping in those sections anymore... and at GameStop, they have alot of people in their at the mall stores, but at stand alones, they're really quite dead.

Not me.
While Gamestop is a nasty rip off for most of their stuff, they still have some great clearance items and accessories.
I got an RF adapter for my SuperNess last week for $3.
Katamari Damacy for $10.

They have nice clearance and 50% off sales, but they need to do something to join the competition, like pay us more for games and sell used games missing cases/manuals for slightly more then what they pay for them, not the same amount as a used game with everything.

Has anyone actually compared amazons trade in prices to gamestops? Id be interested to see how much of a difference it really is.
Steam has been stealing most of the money I used to spend at Gamestop. I'll go to Gamestop (actually Game Crazy since it's closer) when I want to grab a 360 game that just came out or a PC game that's not on steam. Then again, this is about used games, which I don't buy much of.

Yeah, I brought in a big stack of xbox games and a couple 360 games about year ago, and they offered me about $20. That was almost insulting for over 10 games I spent ~$50 each on. Even if Amazon offered twice that, it wouldn't be worth it.

It seems like you can only get money if you have a brand new game that you changed your mind about but can't return. And even then you would have been much better off renting it in the first place.
