I am trying to build a ulimate gaming machine.
I have already bought:
Vista Ulimate x64
6GB DDR2 -PC6400
1TB Western digital 32MB Cache 7200 RPM
4850 GDDR3 Graphic card

I cant decide with to go with Intel or AMD. I thought about either Phemon 2 940 or Intel 2.5 Quad core? I wanted the intel I7 but it out of my price range.

My budget is about 700 dollars to buy the rest.

Any help would be great.....

first off, make sure you read forum rules. This is a "hey, I'm so and so from here, and I like computers" forum. If you need input on a machine, drop it in one of the building forums down below.

If you go Phenom II you save money. If you go Intel you get better performance but you pay about 1 third more for the privlege.
Welcome, if you have a 700 budget for the cpu / motherboard, you can get i7 920 and almost any x58 board out there.
Edit: oh you have DDR2, get a 775 quad (Q9550
)of some sort and a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P

$700 for mobo, CPU, PSU, keyboard, mouse, case, and display?

I would go AMD then. Your CPU won't bottleneck a HD4850 while you spend the rest on the other components.

For those suggesting i7, he already has DDR2.
Yeah dude, if you still want to use your DDR2 memories go with Phenom II save money. It will not disappoint you. you will still have around 300 bucks left. save it for something else. if you really, really want the i7. sell your ddr2 memories get these
