I am The owner of A Gateway P-6831FX! I have seen that they will accept A T9300 processor, are there any quadcore's that it will accept? Are there any other major mods that can be done? Also is the fan speed adjustable in any way? Any advice anyone can give me would be great.

The T9300's the best we can use thanks to the "old" PM965. I upped the T5550 in my P-6860FX to a T9300 myself and not only got better performance but about a 25% increase in battery life.

It's a great upgrade.

Yes, as long as the processor is socket P and it is 800fsb.

Do not buy anything that is 1066fsb as it will NOT work in the Gateway.

If you get anything that is the extreme edition like the x7800 or x9000 you can overclock it to 3.0ghz in the bios by changing the multi on the CPU.

I have my x7800 at 3.0ghz for almost a year now.

And those I listed all come as Socket P 800Mhz FSB CPU's. Do not get a BGA (T9300/T9500).

And nice to know OC BIOS support for "X" CPU's was not certain on that.
