Look what crazy mod I did today. I didn't have anything to do, and I was bored so I decided to mod my graphics card. First I got one 80mm fan and one 40mm chipset fan from my old PC. A friend of mine gave me 8 aluminium ramsinks because he didn't need them. The "cooling system" consists of 1xVivacool "sandwich" - VGA cooler with 2 big heatsinks, heatpipe and a fan; 1x80mm fan 2800 rev/min.; 1x40mm chipset fan; 8x aluminium ramsinks.

There are some explanations in Bulgarian in the pics. Try to guess where is the graphics card

Results from the mod with my system: AMD Duron 1.1Ghz 64kb L2
; 256MB DDR Ram brand "noname from the new series"; MB: DFI AD72-SN with VIA KT 266 working at 100mhz FSB(200DDR); "Canyon" GF FX5500 128 Ram, 128 Bit, memory - 6ns. "Hynix":

Default frequencies - 270/286DDR | Max. OC before the mod 290/385 (increase of the memory clock - 38% | Max. OC after the mod 299/465
(increase of the memory clock - 63%)

3D mark 03 results:
-Test 1 without OC(270/286) - 48fps| After the crazy mod - 67fps (increase of the performance - 40%)
-fillrate single texturing without OC(270/286) - 404 megatexels| After the crazy mod(299/465) - 701 (increase of the performance - 73%)

All this with FX5500 which is factory overclocked 5200 and 6ns "Hynix". Make the conclusions yourself

How can I see what are the temps.? Anyway, I checked the heatsinks temp. by the "finger" method. When I touched them they seemed to be no more than 60*C hot but I don't know the temp. of the core

Yes, the TSOPs are not hotter than 60*C but artefacts appear after even slight increase of the ram freqs. Maybe that's because of the crappy 6ns. "Hynix". I did
this mod for the sport and didn't expect light-fast VGA. I'm planing an upgrade of the PC which will cost me ~$1300 so I don't care much for my FX5500.

My FX 5200 runs at 325/480 (250/400 default) with 5ns Hynix memory. I've replaced the GPU cooler only. I'm planning upgrade too, so I could experiment with gettin ramsinks to see if i can reach above 500 memory

btw, Sasho, where are the pictures, i want to see them
