Generic Low-Profile Heatsink Stock

2760 Views 18 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  justin146
Does anyone know where I can get some cheap generic low-profile heatsinks? I want some so that I can cut to shape if needed. I've looked around eBay's Industial parts but all of those are too big.

They must be less than .4" or 10mm to fit in a single slot. I am looking for something like 3x3" or bigger.

Here's an example of something I did with a random heatsink:

I want generic heatsinks so I can mod in case I need a custom heatsink for... TV tuners, video cards, RAID cards, ect.

Might something like THIS work, or are they also too tall?

Direct sources generally require bulk orders.

I have a bunch of these already ( I believe they are Aavid heatsinks):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...Category=66946
http://cgi.ebay.com/Heatsinks-Ball-G...3A1%7C294%3A50

They're cheap and nice to have. I stick them around on random components (i.e. 680i, TV tuner, GDDR, ICH9R, ect)

These are too small to mod but they're cheap and come in handy. I've bought a few packs and use them everywhere.

These are really thin. Haven't tried them though.
Might try Jameco:

Looks like they are mostly for transistors, but they might have something you are looking for on that page.

I also bought 3 packs of the little ramsinks and they work well on the ram chips on graphics cards.
Here are some other ones to look at.

Not to put down iandh, he does great work, but as custom work it's kind of the opposite of generic and inexpensive

I have some old HS that vary @ about 1 3/4"x1 3/4" to 2"x2" with a ranging in thickness of (2) 1/4' (1) 3/8" (4) 3/8" but have a lip on two opposing sides on the contact surface, (2) 5/8" thick
They typically had 40mm fans on them.
Sorry, nothing as large in square inch as in your OP pic though

Those heatsinks are generally small and you can buy them at Chinese outsource sites.

Besides, I don't want to pay $10-15 per shipped.
