It's really annoying, and it's on just about every page I go to...

Oh that is annoying. I am blocking it now. It may take a few mins to kick in.

Why on earth would you link to something that takes away are primary means of running this site right after a post where I mention I will block it?

:/

We DO NOT accept intrusive advertising. Anything you may see has slipped through one of our ad providers. All we need to know is the URL of the problem ad and we block it.

Agreed the admin is doing everything possible to keep people from getting annoyed with adds no need for that blocker. It's not like we are getting popups.

Don't be too hard on him, he is pretty new. But you are right.

On another note, is there a way to disable adblock for just this site?
Thanks admin. You're awesome.

We could attempt to block adblock plus users (I have the logic of how to do so thought out) but we will not do it.

Lol, that'd suck for them.

We could attempt to block adblock plus users (I have the logic of how to do so thought out) but we will not do it. I am sure 95% of members will understand the role of ads here and we will do our best to continue to improve their value (making them relevant at least).

I am not trying to be hash with my statement - I just need people to realize the implications of their statements. No ads = no way to stay afloat.
well if they are using google ads and all the people on here know about how useless clicking on ads is im guessing not to many people click ads anyways.
Okay, so I found that by clicking the Adblock icon in firefox, you can disable it on an individual site.
what about this one?
can we do something about it?
from www.protectmarriage.com. not judgemental either way towards it, but living in cali, ive heard enough about it already.

We are by no means only running Google ads. Most of our ad dollars come from other providers.

Even if we were, Google ALSO offers CPM-based ads. It's not all CPC.

We pay for servers, staff, advertising, development, contests etc with advertising revenue - and we still lose money each month (as we have constantly re-invested over the years). Please believe me that without advertising, there Overclock.net would not be possible (in this form anyway).

If I may, what does a site like this cost to run monthly/yearly?

I assume those political ads will finish tomorrow. If they don't, we will gather a list and block them all.

Like this! The ABP icon should be green when browsing OCN.

I will not get into details, but we have run a $xx,xxx annual deficit (on purpose) for some time now. This has allowed the site to attain the reach it has.

For a point of reference, our server gear was $xx,xxx to purchase and we still pay $x,xxx/month in hosting/backups etc. Add staff, a large advertising budget, prizing etc - it's not cheap :/ But it's definitely worth the time and money

Now we will be focusing resources on staffing and development.

I would recommend having a notice for ABP users about disabling it...

For me, I personally never click on ads, but every once while I'll disable it and "perform a public duty."

About reducing costs: Ever thought of reducing or compressing some of the images? Compressing css style sheets? Etc? Might save a lot in the long run. (Unless you already do this?)
