you have to use the dummy plug to make the card think its attached to another monitor.

Don't think so. It'll just be a second (non-dominant) graphics card. that can carry out certain actions

I used to run a 6800 next to my 8800 Ultra for an extra screen, never had any issues.

Don't know about having different brands (ATi and nVidia) but two nVidia cards worked just fine.

A) mixing different series of cards I don't think it works...
B) different number of SPs or Cores results in ppd cuts (huge 50% or more)
C) additional cards will take more memory mapping leaving you with less free RAM
D) You WILL need a Dummy Plug for it to work if it does...

and heres a link for how to make a dummy plug

8xxx series ran fine with 6xxxx series for desktop use. Gaming was fine too, my 6800 just displayed the desktop background while I gamed, no impact to FPS. No problems at all. Works fine for regular use, don't know if it would affect [email protected]?

yes regular use is fine, but I'm talking strictly [email protected]

I have in my sig rig an 8800GTX G80 core and an 8800GS G92 core... the 8800GS should output about 4kppd, it only puits out 2kppd because of the difference in SPs and Cores between the cards...

You can mix cards to a certain degree. You can mix 8000 series cards with 9000 series cards. But, I don't know anyone who has been able to get a 200 series card to work with a 8000 or 9000 series card. There is a driver issue when you try to do this.

OP: If you do go with the 260, I seriously doubt that you will be able to fold on the 8600GT as well.
