People mostly say MX Blues are bad for FPS gaming it seems.
Personally, I think that WoW or SC2 would pair up quite nicely with a mechanical keyboard, regardless of switch type.

I use a Das Ultimate with MX Blues and I have had zero problems or complaints in FPS, RTS, MMORPG, racing, etc.

WoW and SC2 would actually be better for a Cherry MX Blue than the so called gaming swtiches.

I have a Blackwidow and I absolutely love it. The MX Blue switches are fantastic for typing and honestly, I love them for FPS' (I play TF2 a lot and LoL on the occassion). I came from an ABS M1 (it broke because I spilled milk in it haha), but yeah. I've noticed that a lot of the new "Gamer keyboards" are coming out with MX Blues versus the other ones (like the ones marketed for SC2 players and whatnot). To be honest it probably doesn't matter THAT much, but I can tell you that I absolutely love the MX Blues for FPS gaming.

The Blackwidow is like a great bang for your buck ($70-80; I wouldn't get the ultimate since the backlit keyboard + usb ports don't justify that $40 increase in price).

I am currently using a Das S Ultimate with no key markings and love it. I get so much more satisfaction out of typing. Not to mention, key response in FPS games went up a bit in comparison to my old G15.

You can certainly use a blue keyboard for gaming, but any decent rubber dome keyboard would be better..

If you want to go mechanical and you are a gamer, a brown or a clear keyboard is surely a better option.

No one really makes boards with clears apart from Deck. You can find old boards with them on ebay, but they are usually old weird cherry boards. Personally I'd rather any Cherry MX switch over any "good" rubber dome.

When it comes to switches, which seems to be your main concern, it's all a matter of preference. I think all the Cherry MX switches are very similar, and have very slight differences that set them apart. They are just little tweaks that you may like one more than the other.

There's nothing weird on the cherry boards, they lack the retroillumination, thats all.

I can't agree at all, there are huge differences, blacks are good for gaming but IMHO are absolutely awful for other uses,
browns and clears are in the middle and going with the former or the latter is just matter of personal preference,
blues are the best for typing but the mechanical hysteresis makes them not well suited to fast double/multiple tapping, and the noise they produce is pleasant for the keyboard user but annoying for the nearby people.

When your board has a card slider and odd layout, I'd say it's weird. Also this just proves my point that it's just preference. I like them all, and you seem to not. Nothing is fact here, it's what you like, and what you don't.

From what I have heard, the general consensus is that MX-Blacks are the choice of gamers, particularly FPS gamers. If you can save a little more than $100 then your options will greatly increase; there are a lot of really nice boards in the $100-$150 range.

I'd rather you get Cherry MX Blues rather than the MX Blacks that people are talking about.
A friend of mine has a Cherry MX Black keyboard and he said it absolutely killed his fingers like no other. Blues are meant for comfort, and with SCII, you might want as much comfort you can get due to the fact that you are spamming hotkeys like no other.

Look into Cherry Brown or Cherry Blue switches. Those seem about right for you unless you don't mind killing your fingers. xD

One can use a truck to do some shopping, it's its own respectable preference.
But if someone asks me I reply that a truck is more suited to do other things, and I explain why.

I like the blues, they are very good for typing, but I cant suggest them for heavy gaming, because the hysteresis.

Which is a fact, not an opinion.

The point of actuation is at most a 10g difference, so no offense, but your friend may need to do some finger exercises or something, lol... All joking aside, it is a matter of personal preference... just know that with MX-Blues the release point is actually above the actuation point, causing double-tapping issues... the Blacks don't have that issue. If you are going to be doing extensive typing I would say go Blue, it is the best of both worlds... but any serious gamer should consider Blacks.

The hysteresis is a fact, but that being a factor in whether or not it's good for gaming is opinion. The whole blue vs black thing is stupid, and instead of anyone actually trying it, they just repeat each other. It's so hard to not consistently fully depress keys that the whole hysteresis argument is dumb. Even if you can, just don't? Not fully depressing the keys isn't going to make you better at gaming. Blues are just like browns, but they make a clicky noise. Browns are just like blacks but the have a bump and need less force to press. These differences are noticeable, but do not in anyway make it so you can't type or game effectively. The difference in your typing or gaming will be very minimal with any of the switches. Some people will just like some more than others. Just like I prefer cotton shirts over polyester.

I guess that is true, but I asked him how it was, he said it didn't hurt much. Mechanicals just need a bit of getting used to I guess.

I widely shared opinion, i have to add.

There's noting stupid in trying to get the best from a 100+ $ object.

If you want to play a game in a suboptimal way the world is plenty of cheap keyboards, there's no need to buy a mech keyboard.

I suppose you are speaking about something you never tried, it's the only way to explain what you are saying.

Even if you haven't a brown and blue keyboards side by side, like me, just a quick look to the FAQs on this room should be enough to understand that the click is not the main difference.

I also prefer cotton, and I have a precise reason, just like the switch choice.

It's something someone made up years ago, and that has been repeated since. For anyone that actually has tried blues, blacks and browns, like me, they are all distinct, but they are all Cherry MX switches.

Since you decided to dodge my explanation of why the double tap thing is ridiculous, let me reiterate. First of all, if you care about double tapping so much that it makes you an amazing gamer, go buy a scissor switch 'board. Actual gamers (not the kind that buy backlit keyboards, and buy hats for tf2) choose what they like. When it comes down to it, you're probably bottoming out the keys anyway when you're gaming with Cherry MXs. When you let go of a key, it is usually in the idle position. No matter the type, they are all 4mm travel, and all have similar design. The actually opertating point, and reset point don't matter, as long as they are not at the complete bottom, or complete top.

Anyway I'd write more but ima go duel.

I don't care about heavy gaming at all, but if a gamer ask, I reply with a logical sentence, surely more logical than saying "all the cherrys are the same"

No need to be Michael Schumacher to understand the difference between a slick and a sculpted tire.

That said there's nothing wrong on using a good scissor switch board, some of them are at least on par with the cherrys, if not better.

The the thinkpads one built by NMB, or the logitech illuminated just to cite two notable examples.

The OCN Mechanical Keyboard Guide is quite clear on this. If you are experienced you will have problems. If you are not experienced you will no have problems.

Although many people find them just fine for gaming, some don't like the fact that the release point is above the actuation point. This can cause some trouble with double-tapping. This is usually the case with someone who has experienced other mechanical switches before hand.
However the WHY is a bit unclear to me. Especially since the Korean Starcraft players haven't seemed to have read the OCN Mechanical Keyboard guide and use Blue Cherrys to win tournaments in their inexperienced noobie way.
