I noticed last week that my PPD took a nose dive. I checked all my PCs that are folding, and found them all running, network connections working, etc., just folding away all happy.

So, this is what my last 36 hours have looked like:

03.23, 9am 901 2
03.23, 6am 353 1
03.23, 3am 901 2
03.23, 12am 548 1
03.22, 9pm 353 1
03.22, 6pm 901 2
03.22, 3pm 783 1
03.22, 12pm 587 1
03.22, 9am 353 1
03.22, 6am 548 1
03.22, 3am 901 2
03.22, 12am 587 1
03.21, 9pm 548 1

I'm getting nothing but small units. And, it wasn't always like this. This is what my past 10 days were like:

03.23.10 2,155 5
03.22.10 4,974 10
03.21.10 4,386 9
03.20.10 4,387 5
03.19.10 5,524 9
03.18.10 6,074 11
03.17.10 6,954 12
03.16.10 10,036 11
03.15.10 9,356 17
03.14.10 10,288 12
03.13.10 8,874 15

For some reason on St. Patrick's Day, my unit points went to all the low ones.

Anyone else experiencing this? Just curious if it's bad luck of the draw, or if some high-point server is not making connections because its down or my ISP might have a bad route path?

I just get frustrated sometimes.
Poor me.

Doing both. Doing SMP on 2 quad core (-smp 3 mode) boxes that have 1 GPU client running on them too, plus a dual core Athlon x2 5600+.

Just thought it weird. PPD just nosedived like that.

Given on the 20th, it went down because I powered the machine off in the spare bedroom for company who was supposed to visit. Otherwise, you can see how the numbers sharply went down with no warning.

Maybe it's just bad luck. I get plenty of it daily.

what cores are the smp clients running? is it the A3 or something else because that could explain the drop in PPD and what about the GPU clients, they arent getting eue errors are they?

I've had a pretty significant drop lately too (started on St Patrick's too
), but that's more because my client's been crashing than poor WUs.

See, the 901s look like a 353 and a 548. 548s give pretty low PPD (to me anyway, so that might be one explanation. Another is that there are no 1k+ WUs. If the SMP client was folding SMP2 WUs (Project 6011-6025), you'd have had a 3/4k WU every day or two (I get a 1k unit every 2.5 days).

Go back to the guide and make sure you're actually getting SMP2 WUs, and not the older ones instead.

I am not sure about the SMP clients, other than it's SniperXX's Linux running under VMWare. Haven't had time to go get a passkey and do Windows SMP yet.

As for GPU errors, none that I know of. They seem to chug along fine.

I don't have FAHMon installed still yet because...well...I guess I'm just too lazy to go back and read. 9-11 hours a day at work on a computer does not lead to me wanting to spend 2-4 hours a night on PCs at home anymore.

I think I should be getting SMP2 WUs. I remember something about downloading the new SniperXX's client and I -oneunit'ed the current one I was doing to finish, then put the new VM in place and let it zoom along.

I get 1k and 2k units. I have seen them. That's why I had 9k-11k days for a while and I was supposed to get to 1M by April 15. But now with this rash of 350-900point WUs, my estimate at Aug 15 has gone from 2.2M to 1.9M.

Oh btw, I might have to soon reduce my folding to one machine soon. I had to buy a new car (the old car had 203,000 miles), and that extra 20-30 a month I'm spending on folding electricity makes a big difference.

This summer when I get caught up on paying off bills, I might be able to start the 2nd quad core + GPU box folding again in the living room.

But for now, I might have to shut down part of the farm til I get out from under some debt. I need a car to get to work

Are you running that VMware on your sig rig? If so, it'd be much easier to just install the SMP client and configure it for SMP2 WUs. But if you'd rather not, just check Task Manager> Processes and find out which FahCore_xx.exe you're folding; maybe the client isn't getting SMP2 WUs any more.

Nah. My sig rig is having issues. For some reason, the motherboard controller doesn't want to see 2 different drives on 2 different SATA connectors so it's never folded yet.

As soon as I get unbored with PCs (like I said...long computer work days = no desire to do stuff at night), I might get into getting my passkey and doing Windows SMP.

Right now...I just feel burnt with computers because of work. Maybe it's time that I buddy up to Obama and get him to let me be US Ambassador to Ireland. I do love it there.

well if you get a passkey you will get ALOT more points. you cant get the bonus points without the passkey. take the 5 minutes to set it up, its worth it.

Well, I set the passkey up on the 3 computers. Maybe that will help.

I got on my Linux box, and it was folding with the "..._a2" program. Not sure if that's because it's all I have, or because of the assignment the server gave me.

I also found one of my boxes (for no reason...wireless is autoconnect set) didn't have a network connection. Not sure what was with that. But, I know it wasn't down for a week. I had been on it Friday. So, who knows.

I got 1 1k+ 3WU assignment turned in early today. Maybe I'll start cranking again before the weekend. That's when I'll be shutting down 2 of the 3 folding rigs I have. I'm still gonna leave on my Phenom x4 9850 folding in the front room for as long as it will run and not die (it was built from spare parts).

I might even try over the weekend to put the Windows SMP2 client on there, and see if that bumps a single box PPD quite a bit. It is XP Pro x64 compatible, corrrect?

Thanks

So, I want to show you what happened when I put in the passkey and stuff:

03.31.10 6,314 7
03.30.10 10,495 12
03.29.10 8,842 13
03.28.10 12,482 12
03.27.10 9,049 13
03.26.10 7,876 17
03.25.10 6,466 12
03.24.10 6,230 13 <--- put passkey in that night on all 3 PCs
03.23.10 4,349 10
03.22.10 4,974 10
03.21.10 4,386 9
03.20.10 4,387 5
03.19.10 5,524 9

at the 9am update today, I'm already at 6300+ points.

Now I'm thinking about setting up 2 of my laptops and setting up the multi-GPU on my dual-core rig in the spare room for the April Foldathon and Chimp Challenge...before I go into conservation mode.

I have a vacation to take at the end of May, and I'm supposed to attend a conference in Kentucky at the end of June. So, I have to save my pennies somehow.

Thanks guys
