My card gets pretty hot to touch while running NfS:MW and CoD2 with all the eye candy, but I don't have a temp sensor.

Will I see artifacts or have shutdowns before the card gets hot enough to do any lasting damage?

Yes, your game will freeze, skip ect. before your do damage to your card.. Artifacting won't happen due to high temps.

Sometimes in NfS:MW I'll get little hangups, is this the V/C overheating or just the game loading new textures and what not?

EDIT: The other day in CoD2 I would get little mini-freezes where I wouldn't be able to move my mouse, or change direction i was walking in. Same Q. as above for this situation :/

Humm, could be, because if your GFX card is running on the hot side, it will slow itself down to lower the temps.. and then speed back up once the temps are down. I would recommend this Zalman VF700-CU for your gfx card. It is cheap and effective

How abouts the Arctic Silencer 5 Rev.2 ATI? I'd rather have that because it covers the memory chips as well as the GPU. Would it fit on a x800gt? R480 core, same PCB as the other R480 x800 cards. I don't see that many extra holes that the ramsinks screw into though.

I am big on NFS. Check out the NFS forums. This is not a problem with hardware, it is referred to as "stuttering". Lots of high end systems will have short 3-4 second stutters in the game, even if they have oober systems. This problem is not yet resolved! There are over 500 people on teh forums complaining of it!
