Online retailer Amazon has entered the pre-owned videogames market, with the beta launch of a new service.

Users send Amazon their games, and in return are issued a gift card for a pre-arranged amount.

The retailer already allows users to sell their own games through the site, but this is the first time Amazon has taken a more active role.

On PlayStation 3 titles, Amazon is currently offering users USD 33 for Capcom's Street Fighter IV, and at the other end of the scale, USD 9 for Ubisoft's Far Cry 2.

Amazon is the latest retailer to jump on the pre-owned market, traditionally an area for specialist games stores.

In the US Toys R Us has begun trialling a service, while the UK's HMV launched its second hand offering last year.

So wait.... you can either list it on their site and sell it thru them and get a fair amount for it or you can send it to them at a really low rate and they can make the profit? Who would do that?

amazon have gone really downhill lately IMO

their prices aren't particularly great and PLAY.COM almost always offer a better service. Amazons free postage is too slow and their first class postage is over priced and still slow. Plus my logitech z-5500's are still waiting to be dispatched with their 2-5 week waiting time.. and I agree with raveneon about this new service. I can't see its appeal atall.

Personally, this is just another company jumping on the ever lucrative "let's rip people off big time" market.

Trade-ins are a skank.

Well sort of.. other than that GS doesn't allow you to sell on consignment.

Why anyone would mirror GS is beyond me. They have the worst policies and pricing structure around and because they have zero competition get away with it.

You have to wonder why they've never been sued for selling used open items as new... shouldn't that be illegal?

It also cracks me up that they will take games that are scratched disc only and try to sell them for the same price as complete and mint

What about when they have a "new" copy of a HTF title and a used one and the used one is priced higher

Then there is my personal favorite policy about not taking returns on opened new items..... but they sell them that way
