Hello everyone

I am currently upgrading my PC rig and really struggling on the GPU, I have been considering over a week now and cannot make a final decision. its probably the hardest decision i've ever had to make!
I know this question has be done many times but cannot find a thread that answers specifically to my needs.
My current Rig stands at:

MSI Z77A-GD55
Intel Core i5 3570K
powercool 750W Psu modular
8gb corsair vengeance ram
Nxzt Phantom full tower
samsung 1TB HDD
seagate 320B HDD

I've done a pros and cons list of the two cards and everything pretty much evens out, they are the same price so I don't know which would be best bang for buck.

Radeon

Pros
3gb memory
AMD's best GPU
high overclock
3 fans + quieter
comes with bioshock + crysis

GTX

Pro
cuda cores
Msi military III (Matches motherboard)
on par with stock 680
low power consumption
Smaller card

Radeon

Cons
Larger card
higher power consumption
volt locked

GTX

Cons
not a 680
can't be OC as high as 7970
less memory for future 4K

To clarify on some points, what I mean by not a 680 is that with a 670 even though its a powerful card its basically a watered down version of a 680 whereas the 7970 is AMD's flagship card.
for the money you know you are getting AMDs best.

I know they are pretty even in performance and that's why its hard. the biggest conflict i have is the extra memory with with 7970 vs the smaller and lower power draw of the 670.
would that extra power draw make a whole lot of difference?

The volt lock isn't a BIG issue as I'm not sure I want to mess with changing volts but I might want the option in the future which would give me an edge with the 670.

to me both cards have great features and offers what each other lacks so I'm looking on opinions of what the best pros to go for.

Go for sapphire HD 7970 OC (1 ghz) . unlocked voltage. good cooler. on par with GTX 680. with overclocking the HD 7970(1.2 ghz) would exceed GTX 680(1.3 Ghz) in majority of games. the GTX 670 OC is a slower card, though it draws lesser power. the game bundle makes the HD 7970 OC even more easier choice.

USD 400 with $10 off w/code: MELTDOWN, ends 02/25. USD 380 after mail in rebate. free shipping. best price for the sapphire hd 7970 oc.

just save your money and buy a gpu with a minimum of 3GB. i suggest the 7950. mine maxes out bf3 MP and c2 at stock maintaining 60 fps with my SB oc'ed to 4.5GHz. c3 is a different story. i played the beta and put in 11 hours smooth at high with 4msaa. but that's beta. no single card can max it out anyway.

oh, the savings, you can use to get a ssd or a better cpu cooler if yours is lacking.

Thanks for the replies, I've been doing more searching into cards and came across the Gigabyte GTX 670 with 4GB ram. its about £40 more expensive but would solve the memory issue and rivals an Msi twin frozr 680 for £50 less! this has made things even more awkward.
This R7950 is a great card but i\m trying to build a PC for Future requirements. with the announcement of the PS4 and looking at the quality of games i want to be able to play them on high settings.
A game I've been looking into is watchdogs. the game looks amazing and looks like it relies a lot on phsyX and so why i'm steering towards A GTX.

I'm willing to eventually Crossfire or SLI too in the future and having 2 X 4GB cards would handle a 4k monitor but i'm wondering would that be overkill?

Overkill? for me as long as you happy with it, there's no overkill....If you stick with 4GB, I recommend 670 4GB SLI, especially with future proofing.
