Gigabyte ex58-ud3r vs. Ex58-extreme vs. Ex58-ud5 vs. Evga x58-3x sli

I currently have a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R and have about 5 days left before my 30 day trade in will expire at Microcenter.

Should I keep it or upgrade to a different board... have my eyes on the above mentioned boards... I really like the gigabyte extreme for its water cooled NB block and the evga for the NB cooling fan.

This machine will be water cooled & extremely overclocked to use for 3D rendering a lot.

3X sli would be a plus but not my first priority by any means.

Thanks in Advance

What is your problem. You are not gonna get a better board than that Gigabyte board. They are some of the best rated boards on the market. On the other hand the EVGA board is RMA'd more that the Edsel. Stay with that board.

Well for starters.. only four ram slots on my ud3r... the ud5 and extreme are rated at ddr3 2100 and mine is only 2000... not sure what that is all about... ud5 and evga especially the ex58-extreme have nicer NB cooling and have other nice overclocking features.

LOL... almost talk myself into it evga or gigabyte... the RMA issue mentioned scares me on the evga... but it is cheaper.

The memory speed ratings are bunk. If you happen to have a CPU that take a massive 4.2GHz on the uncore clock without immolating itself, you will beable to use DDR3-2100 on the UD3R.

Yeah, the 4 memory slots could potentially be a problem, but only if you really need more than 8GiB of cheap memory.

If you will really use 3-way SLI then get rid of the UD3R. However, if two cards are enough, don't bother (you should beable to flash the UD3R to the UD3R-SLI, as they are EXACTLY the same board).

The memory is a big thing I think but don't really know cuz I don't use Vista and am just now starting to use Windows 7 Beta... I have heard that Vista runs a little better with 6gb and all I can afford right now is 3gb... so the extra slots would be nice for a future upgrade.

But man.. that NB water block on the extreme and the fan on the evga?

I love Gigabytes thick boards too.

Doubt if I will ever get 3 gpu's as this is mostly for 3d cad and raytracing.. but ya never know.

How did you manage a 30-day trade in period with Micro Center? Don't get me wrong I love that place but my local store is very rigid with only swapping motherboards for the exact same model.

LOL... not sure... but this is my 3rd board & cpu already...they are nice here in Denver! I think if you upgrade... maybe that might be the reason they let me... also... they see me in there alomost everyday.

Traded in my Gigabyte at microcenter for the EVGA X58 and sighned up for the step up for the EVGA Clasified.

The EVGA X58-Clasified is the the new ultimate i7 board... 1300mhz pwm VREG 2-8 pin 12volts!

This board will be an overclocking monster!!!

Got my EVGA X58 to 4.4ghz with 1.56 VCORE/210blck 40*c core temps with my homemade window AC waterchiller on a sub-standard Danger Den waterblock... lol killer WC system for less than $100 bucks!

Prime95 stable now for 9hrs... WOOT!!!

I would still like to try the Gygabytes out. I think they are nice boards too... especialy the Extreme with the built in Waterblock!

I'm going to have to buy a waterblock for this EVGA Mosfets are hot!

lol, you mean your i7 9xx to 4.4Ghz? good choice, i like evga a lot but i did have to rma my first board i got from them, so they do usually have problems.

It's a 920 and ya... I miss the Gygabyte it was solid and a nice build... an easier overclock... had to learn a lot of new stuff on this EVGA... like keeping the VVT within .5 volts of the VDIMM... the Gigabyte must have been doing it for me iwhen vt was set to auto.

Also I had my Corsair ddr 1600mgz clocked to 1700+ on the UD3R I"m still working on getting my EVGA to there with the 210 host frequency... it just wont pass memtest86 at 16** mhz with the2:8 ram divider... I have to use the 2:6 divider... still working on it.

Really would like to step up to the EVGA X-58 Classified... hope they put me on that list! Lot's of things to work out on that board still... and no benchies posted yet.
