Hello,
there is a great combo deal on newegg for this and a PhII 940 that I am interested in, but I cant seem to find any professional reviews of this Motherboard (only reviews I've found are the customer reviews on newegg). Anyone that can vouch for this mobo?
Thanks,
EFR

One thing that you can do is go on Newegg and then press
desktop graphics cards then press see all desktop cards then press best rating. that will help alot. NO one know more than the customers that buy.

I think i've narrowed my decisions down to either the Foxconn A79A-S or the mobo in this thread. The mobo in this thread doesnt have enough reviews on it (only customer as said in OP), but all the ones that are on it say it is good. The only thing i've been hearing about the A79A-S is a problem with memory running at 800 instead of 1066 (easy fix) and that the bios is kind of clunky. I'm not sure if I should go with the older more trusted A79A-S or the newer UD4H. Anyone have some light they would like to shed on this choice, neither stand out as perfect to me like the gigabyte UD3P does for an intel build.
Thanks,
EFR
I have a Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H - see my sig rig
It runs really well. I have Windows 7 64 bit Beta and Fedora 10 64 bit.
It is really stable at 3520 MHz on air at 16x220 running the Fedora. Win 7 is a bit flaky with several BSOD's. I am blaming MS for now.
Running multi-core x4 [email protected] the processor only gets to 39C.
I did drop the memory back to x4 speed when I overclocked.
The board recognized 1066 MHz but I had to bump up the voltage and adjust the timings manually to get them as tight as advertised.

The on board video is not great. Best I have done in 3DMark06 is something like 2670. That's with a CPU score of over 4000.

I did some more testing with my sig rig.

Running 3651 MHz with GPU memory at 750 MHz got the following

3DMark Vantage PC 4715

3DMark06 2288
736 2.0 SM
862 3.0 SM
5109 CPU

Idle Temp at 30 C with Max Temp to 46 C Ambient 20 C
Will edit with my voltages after I check them again.

Everytime some one asks for a mobo recommendation, this is probably the most frequently mentioned (trust me, I'm a newbie, I ask these questions all the time and people get annoyed at me for it
). People have recommended that particular board to me lots of time. But personally I bought the Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P. Seems like all of Gigabyte's AMD 790 chipset boards are good choices though.

you really can't go wrong with any 790x mobo out on newegg. They are all pretty solid. I'm a fan of gigabyte tho

hmm need to make a quick decision between the mobo in the OP or a foxconn A79A-S. Foxconn has a worse rating on newegg but is about $20 cheaper right now and normally is about $100 more. I dont really need the extra features provided by a 790fx vs a 790gx but I don't mind it heh. Tough call for me though.

A79A-S

I'm leaning towards the gigabyte, but the fact that I would get a much more expensive product at a cheaper price w/ the A79A-S is tempting heh.

Edit: scratch that, gonna get the A79A-S
I'm having the same problem as you; trying to decide whether or not on the Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UDH4 or the ASUS M4A78-E. I may just have to flip a coin or something.
