Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 questions

Ok, I'm considering getting this board and I've been a loyal customer and fan of Gigabyte products for a while and I have several questions.

Does this board make any squealing or high pitched noises? This is my main concern because the UD5 did it and I was quite unhappy with it.

Any issues with double booting? Because I found this quite annoying as well (Same problem with UD5)

When I also owned a P55 setup, I found the UD5/UD6 board BIOS was buggy and I encountered several problems. I'm afraid some of these problems may be present on this board, hopefully not.

Installing two or more DVD drives will cause the screen to hang at Boot DVD/CD screen

When overclocked, the reset button does not work properly, instead when pressed you must wait for at least 3 seconds and the machine turns off instead and turns back on after a second (This is a very weird issue with the P55)

When using Intel Turbo Boost when your RAM is set to 1600Mhz or over, the CPU will stay at a locked multiplier (My 860 ran at 2.9Ghz all the time and will not go over and Speedstep will not work)

If anybody has experienced with this board please do tell me, I really want to try out this board, thanks.

Iv had the board since it was released and I have not noticed any high pitched noises and iv been running it day in and out. But this is my individual board I have had friends that have had the board and it made noise they sent it back to Giga and got a new one and problem solved.

I personally have not noticed any issues when dub booting.

Well the Bios is from Giga and they are known to not have the most friendly UI in bios but with a lil working at it appers to be fine.
My reset button works fine when i have to use it I have the board in a Coolermaster haf 932
But my only concern when OCing the ram is that the board runs the ram a little unfriendly when in OC and has a tendency to burn out the ram slots on the board so i kept my ram at 2000 and didint go over that just to be safe and I had no aggravating problems to speak of.

I have this board sitting in a closet unopened waiting on my 920 to get here. I am very interested about any problems owners may be experiencing so, I will try to keep this thread active until I can share and problems or fixes I may experience later on. The specs were very tempting and I hope I have the same luck that I have had with ASUS in the past.
I got this board a while back and so far I'm impressed, no problems whatsoever. Another outstanding Gigabyte board, it has none of those issues I listed on my first post.

I have had the Gigabyte ud7 board for about 2 weeks now. I am having lots of trouble trying to get the new Corsair Dominator GT's working on this board. Enabled XMP, disabled XMP tweaked with voltages atlast to no avail. Others have had problems with gskill 1600 trying to get stable, check out newegg reviews on this board. I tested each individual module fine but when it came to tri channel support the gigaboard lets me down. I have a i7 975 unlocked multiplier so it isnt instability from baseclock and it isnt cpu related because the i7 975 i am running at stock just to try and get my ram stable. Perhaps a faulty memory support on this board and I should get a exchange or a wide spread issue with this board with high frequency RAM or a much needed bios update. If anyone else is experiencing this problem or not with high frequency RAM please post. By the way I am running brand spanking new bios of f3h and have tried all other beta bios down to f1, First time with Giga..from Asus... Giga why !

squealing on ud5? Is this common, and is it something that comes with age or something? I'm worried now!! This is the most stabile and all around GREAT board i have owned to date, am I in for a loud whinning surprise in the distant or near future>? Also, what is it on the motherboard that makes these sounds?
Nah, it turned out to be my power supply that was making that high pitched squealing noise, I changed it and it went away.

Anyway, this UD7 board is good. The problem I had with the UD5 that everytime I tried to set my RAM at 1600Mhz which is its native speed, the next time I turn on my machine the POS would refuse to POST and will revert to 1066Mhz which is annoying. Never had this issue with this UD7, everything works great. And has good overclocking features as well, I just need to wait until summer is over before I can do more insane overclocking.
@ Chrono

Did u use the Additional Heatsink provided by the Gigabyte for the X58 Chipset?
I plan to buy this motherboard soon enough, but the thought of blocked PCI-1x worry me (I planned to used it for X-fi), I would actually liked to purchase UD5 models, but it's no avail currently...

Edit:And I saw the memory compatibilty list, which shows that my memory (Corsair TR3X6G1866C9D 3x2) only support 1 dimm per channel, what does it means? Does it means i must throw the other 2 dimm? (I use Gigabyte-EX58-UD4P before without problem though, but I change because I break a capacitor)
To answer your question:

I did use the heatsink but I found it to be a bother. I don't even think installing the heatsink helped cool my northbridge so why bother.

And as for the second question, I'm not sure. Right now I'm running 6x2 G.Skill Ripjaws a total of 12GB and everything works fine, and these Ripjaws are meant for 1156 and AM3 platforms only (Long story why I got them)
Ok, maybe someone that tried without the heatsink may help? What is the temperature difference, I might not overclock too much anyway, haven't got good heatsink....
I keep reading about the negative things about the layout? I just don't get it?

Also, how's your OC?

Well, the problem with UD7 as far as I know, is that the Hybrid Silent Pipe will block 1 PCI-1X slot and short the lenght of the other, which disallow usage of longer cards...
I have had mine for a while now without any issues at all. This board is getting a bad rap with memory issues and beta bios(s).. I popped in 6 gigs of OCZ platinum and it works fine. The only issue I could see was maybe a newb leaving auto settings on some voltages(some auto settings are set high for everyday use).. I couldn't find any info online on how good the LC north bridge block worked. My loop is 1/2" and the stock barbs are 3/8", so I haven't tried lc yet. The barbs also do not come off of the block.. I tried that.. Ek has one in development, should have been out already, that will cover the NB/SB and mosfits. Hopefully I can get that in the loop before it gets brutally hot here.

I haven't really tried overclocking yet because its summer here and right now my CPU is idling at 40C+ at stock speeds and I'm using a Corsair H50 here. But I have played around with the OC settings in the BIOS and it looks promising.

I don't know why everybody is criticizing the memory issues, I'm running 12GB at 1600Mhz at 1.5V and it works fine. Never had any issues, most likely RAM issues with other brands that Gigabyte needs to fix in their future BIOS.

You should be able to OC easily with a 950, Mine posted first try @ 4.2, but I keep it at 3.8 for normal use. As for heat, I can't really tell because it been so cold here. Almost to the point of taking out the LC. I had an Asus mATX where the chip ran cool, but the Nb ran extremely hot(same settings). This nb seems to be 10-20c lower on air, and isn't tucked in behind the gpu.

As for memory, I think people are having trouble oc'ing memory. I dunno, might be user error.
First of all hello, as this is my first post here.. I am experiencing the same problem.. I own the mobo for about 3 days now, i have it with an i975 EE running at stock speeds and with 6x2 gb corsair dominator gt at 1888mhz. The problem is that i can't get my ram working at 1888, it is working stock at 1333. The only easy way is if i use the auto overclock utility to 'maximum' as it says when it pushes the CPU to 4ghz and the ram to 1600. Also i would like to ask why when i try to change the multiplier, it only gies up to 26 when this Cpu is supposed to be unlocked? Maybe a new question but i am new to this..
You should try updating the BIOS and see if that works, according to Gigabyte the latest BIOS has better memory compatibility.

i have a similar problem,
when i put 3 ddr3 modules [kingston 2000mhz 8-8-8-20] in, the memory test fails.
when i test all modules in bank 0, the test goes ok.
i tried also 8-8-8-24, 9-9-9-24, frequencies from
1000, 1333, to 1800, but the pc keeps failing memtest
in tripple channel mode. and windows restarts at random.
all voltage settings are auto, nothing is overclocked.
temperatures not more than 50C.
any ideas what might be wrong?
I finally heard the whining sound, and yes it comes from the board. I almost crapped myself. I ran my lc loop for 24 hrs, and then put the board into the case and hooked up everything. Well, like the Rampage II series the led's change color. With this board, it lights up multiple leds in a row to show how extreme the voltage or the overclocking.. I was in the red at start up because my pump was connected to the power fan not the cpu fan, and it freaked. It is loud and annoying.. I had to unplug to reboot.. Fixed now..
