Ignore iampoor's suggestion.

Your 8500GT is pretty much on par with the 7900GS, plus your GPU is already DirectX10 whilst the 7900GS is not. If you went for the 7900GS you'd be wasteing your money and wouldn't gain any performance.

If it were me I'd invest the money into either a ThermalRight Ultra 120 or Tuniq Tower 120. You could also do with a better PSU but that would take you over your $90 budget. Though those two suggestions depend on how important overclocking is to you.

$90 will only get you a good PSU. Your video card is fine IMO.

OCZ 600w StealthXStream
: $94.99
or
THERMALTAKE TR2 500w: $79.99

I'd get the StealthXStream.

Cheers for the Rep!

If overclocking isn't that important to you, you could always put your money into getting a dedicated sound card, or some fancy peripherals (keyboard/mouse/etc) for your system.

And just who has it been proven by?

Just as an 8600GTS is on par with a 7950GT, the 8500GT is on par with the lower clocked 7900GS. However, when it comes to superficial benchmarking apps, like FutureMark's 3DMark, the does 7900GS perform better. In real world games there will be no noticeable difference that makes it worth wasteing $90. His LCD wont allow him to see frames over 60FPS anyway. Though the 8500GT is not the best DirectX 10 card, it's still a reasonable card and shouldn't be upgraded until the OP has the budget for a better DirectX 10 card, especially seeing as he already has Vista.
