Giving up, go'in back to comfort zone

Hi All,

Ok, lets get the story out, I have wanted to upgrade my sig rig for a while, so I thought the best place to start would be the memory and HDD, so first I got hold of (now) 5 x Veloceraptor 300Gb drives ($$$$) anyway and the I got some OCZ Reaper HPC 1066 2 x 2 Gb, I had really no luck installing the OCZ's, I tried every know combination of voltage and timings, but could never get a stable system with memory at 1066, so I ditched them and bought these

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...itesta-800-4GB

the same modules as I had previously in my PC, only the timings were CL5 before and now I bought CL4, still no go, I could get them stable at CL5 settings, but only at 830Mhz, were as before I got the CL5 ones to go up to 1000Mhz, so I change them again, this time for these ones:

Now, these are the Gaming Series, apparently they are quite good, alas they still do not achieve the same speeds as my original memory, so guess what, I am going to get my old memory back and try that again and forget the whole memory issue, as now I have 16Gb laying around, I think I will put them up for sale, after I have tinkered some more with them, any suggestions as to what I can do?

My Sig rig is the involved party.

Q6600
Striker II Formula with 1901 bios
5 x 300Gb VR's
2 x 8800 GTS G92's
2 x DVD combos
case
and all the rest

HELPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

How are you defining stability? Also, are you assuming it's your ram that is not stable?

Honestly it sounds like your MOBO just doesnt wanna do 1066 any more.
Could be something other than the RAM. Are you OCing linked or unlinked? Etc. Run memtest 86+ on the 1066 ones, as they should be fine at 1066...
The most common cause of instability in 2x2GB kits, is tRFC needs to be quite high ~55+

Well, before I installed the new modules my machine never hung on me at all, when every I change something in the Bios, the machine would reboot, now there are some issues now and again. Memtest86 has past all tests, but in windows Vista x64, it crashes now and again.

The thing is I cant get them working as 1066 even at unlinked in the bios, I set it to CL5 settings at 1066, and have tried most voltage up to 2.34v, still no booting, just hangs on DET DRAM

I have tried to set it to 55 - 56 - 57 - 58 - 60, still no action.

I have put my old modules in and all is perfect, I can overclock them to 1020Mhz, no problem, on CL5, no extra voltage, I leave it on auto, which turns out to be 2.0v, and the machine reboots great.

I have now tried OCZ, Corsair, Kingston and New A-Data's, all give me a negative preformace increase from my old modules.

its almost like I need to by a new MOBO

So, what do you all think?

Are you using 4 or 8GB now? Looks like you tried a lot of things, what are the rest of the system voltages at?

I am using 8Gb, my goal was to keep 8Gb, I have now 32Gb's of memory laying around, I will be RAM'ing them all, my system voltages are:

CPU 1.43v
NB 1.50v
SB 1.60v
MEM 2.10v
and the rest I cant remember
but thats the just of it all

Why, what were you thinking about?

Ah well I think the 8GB is giving you the problems, it's much harder on the board then 4GB.

so would you suggest I only use 4Gb, because I can see quite a change in performance in Vista with 4Gb vs 8Gb.

Yeah, use 4GB or get a board that is known to work well with 4x2GB. And I highly doubt you notice 8GB over 4GB unless you are really doing some intensive video editing and that sort of stuff.
