We've been wondering what the Microsoft's retail shops are going to be like. Well, according to a Powerpoint presentation leaked to us, it's going to make the Apple Store look downright boring.
...

Essentially, Microsoft is taking the best elements from the Apple Store, Sony Style and other "flagship" stores. The main focuses are going to be Windows 7, Xbox, PCTV (Windows Media Center) Surface and Windows Mobile, revolving around this concept customer they call "Emily," who's basically a younger version of your mom, since they make all the buying decisions.

Sweet

The stores look like a great concept, but Microsoft still has alot of work to do. Most brands like Apple and Sony have a positive brand image, meaning sticking Apple or Sony on a product usually commands a higher retail price, while Microsoft, for most people, seem to command a negative brand image. That means usually people are willing to pay less for Microsoft products, or see them as "less hip".
It's not like Microsoft products are overpriced.

It is? It was cheap to pre-order, very cheap. It's also cheaper than Windows Vista was, and it hasn't stopped many people here from running Windows Vista.

They also the zune, xbox 360, and zune marketplace which are all cheaper (some, much less) than the competition (Apple/Sony).

You call $40 for a pre-ordered copy expensive?

Agreed, excluding pre-orders, those was priced nicely. Tbh, I think Windows Vista was expensive to, so was XP and Office, and pretty much all of there retail products. The only reason I got a retail copy of Vista Ultimate was because I got it for $230, I always got OEM before but after I realized the limitations on OEM I stopped getting them. If W7 Pro was $250, I would jump on it quick, anything over starts becoming a lot to swollow (or for my $1200-1500 per month income anyways).

Anyhow, back on topic. I think the stores will shed a bit more positive light towards Microsoft as for once they show there faces in public, and you can see all the great things they have developed over the years in one place.

As cool as it seems, Michigan is going to be the last state to get one so i'll save myself the anticipation.

Not true. Idaho will be last I'm sure.
Can't wait to see one though.

If they would make it an all-around computers and parts franchise, with comparable software selection, then they could clean up.

Unfortunately they appear to just be mimicking Apple (*ahem* yet again), which granted might draw some techies and fanboys; But why would Joe and Jane Public bother searching out a Microsoft store when the closest Walmart or Bestbuy sells the same thing?

Maybe brand identification is a stronger force than I'm realizing, but I'm just not seeing what a Microsoft store that sells prefab computers can provide me (or anyone else) that your run-of-the-mill retailer that sells prefab computers can't.
Ahaha, Apple's going to get pwned.

Mommy mommy!
I want a Microsoft Store birthday party!

I'm sorry, son... we can't afford the Ultimate... We'll just have to go with the Home Edition...

Best comment on there.

Actually, as far as I know, nobody really knows anything about Project Pink yet. It's a top-secret mobile-related project at Microsoft, and it's been speculated to be anything from a Zune Phone to Win 7 Mobile. They're being extremely quiet about it.
