I'm trying to figure out what would be a good graphics card for this sytem. I don't mind it being slightly bottlenecked by the cpu, but I would prefer to not pay for something im not getting, performance wise.

I was thinkinf of maybe a 4650, but is that tech too new for this old of a setup? Logic tells me it shouldn't be a problem, but sometimes you never know with these types of things.
Should I go for a hd 3000 series card? or maybe a 7000 series nvidia?

Thanks!

I run a 3.0GHz P4 at 3.5GHz. I'm really cheap so I have a BFG 6600GT 128MB

It can't really game well, I can run BFBC2 at lowest settings and it's barely playable... But that's not all that important for me so I just run this, I was going to get something better thou because there is just a huge bottleneck!

jk man. 3850 or 4670.

7 series nvidia cards suck. dx9 and no unified shaders...

how well do the 3850's compare to the 4670's?

Does anyone know somewhere that might give a comparison?

If your P4 has pci-e slot, go for the HD4650 or HD3650 because anything higher will be bottlenecked by the cpu and of course buying a 9600GT will make you buy an expensive PSU as well because your generic psu can only provide power to smaller cards.

If your P4 only has AGP slot then go get ATI x1650 or x1900
