Good Stability Test programs for GPU Core OC?

1097 Views 14 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Addictedtokaos
Iv been trying to find a good quick way to see if my GPU core is stable. Iv been stuck at 870/1740 core @1.087v on my 460 and I hope I can get more out of it. Iv been using ATI tool but it only seems good for memory OC testing, (artifact scanner) and for that it does a fantastic job. But I get no artifacts when I bring my core to clocks were I know its not stable. Running the heaven benchmark finds the instabilities but only after 12/18 runs, and my computer freezes and I need to manually reboot. So anyone know a good app? or am I already using the right ones.

MSI Afterburner. It comes with Kombustor that is kinda like furMark. It really burns in the card.

Google and you will find it easy.
Kombuster, and then the game you want to play, or the 3d series. Heaven 2.5 is also nice for stressing.
Running benchmarks.
Even OCCT GPU test and furmark miss sometimes.

Run a few cycles of 3dmark vantage or 11, and they will crash in no time if your OC isn't stable.
That's what I do at least.

Ya just got 3dmark 11 basic, with kombuster/furmark I can go for 15 hours with 970 core, and its not stable in any other 3d app, even flash freezes my comp with that OC, but kombuster is fine for days, its magic I swear

Ive actually found that nvidias ray tracing demo is extremely brutal, it crashed my system in under a minute when it was completely stable in furmark for 30 minutes.

Say 30 loops of the Crysis Benchmark with maxed settings and maxed res should do it. Crysis really stresses the GPU like no other game probably. Crysis is what I used on my card for the most part. Let it run for a while that's why I say try 30 loops

As for artifacts Crysis is not that good because it has a lot of glitches, maybe EVGA OC Scanner

I vote for the running benchmarks and playing whatever your favorite, most taxing game is, to test it. Im done with GPU stress testers. Too much stress on card.

Not that many. I did like 10 minutes of OCCT, then played with that OC in game and if I noticed something I bumped it down. Still never noticed anything though =/

Furmark puts alot of stress that the GPU will never really see. 570's have that problem though.

i dunno but i have found jc2 the concrete jungle bench with everything at max to be a good indicator of in game stability. I've had unstable clocks crash at some point in the bench.

That, or Kombustor
Ive tried them all, Furmark, OCCT, ATI Tool....

Kombuster is the only GPU stress test tool that would cause artifacting or Video Driver Recovery on my GPU.

Dont waste your time with anything else if you want your overclocks to be Gaming stable.

Up the res to your gaming res or about 1920x1080 - you can also choose Full Screen but I never do
8x MSAA
select the DX version 9/10/11

Let it run for a few hours and watch you temps. If you can get no artifacting or issues after a few hours you should be good.
