Got a 5850..Will I regret it?

I have been wanting a 5870 horribly bad and always miss out on them by a couple minutes. I came upon the XFX Black Edition 5850 and ordered it as an impulse buy basically. After sleeping on it, I wanted to cancel it but waited too long and now it is headed my way. Should I send it back and wait for a 5870 or just be happy with the 5850? I don't exactly NEED a new video card, I just WANT one and have been drooling over the 5870 for weeks! I just don't think I'll be satisfied with the card until it is a 5870.. If it was the regular 5850 I wouldn't be questioning it as much, but considering the BE of it was $360 and still slower than the stock 5870 at $410...it seems like I made a mistake.

Someone please help me justify this decision

Its yours now so no point crying about it

The 5850 is a fine card you won't be disappointed in the performance.

If you aren't concerned about the money, then its not a big deal. If you are .... I can give you a good list of reasons to return it lol

I've been in the same boat. Stopped myself twice already from confirming order with a 5870 in my cart. Barely stopped myself.

Think about it this way. Youll have more money left in your pocket annnnd a video card that does exactly what it needs to do and very well. Better than a 4870 and you wont see all the extra power the 5870 gives hiding beyond 35 fps. You will be happy; and if you need more, CF.
I can still get the money back for it which I am considering doing. And the money isn't really a big deal considering it is a Christmas gift for me. I was going to order another for a Crossfire setup around spring. Now that it's on its way, it seems pointless to have ordered the BE because I am just going to OC it anyway, and not to mention watercool it as well so to pay the extra money for a warranty I am most certainly going to void just seems like a bad move..
its a fine card imo its just a matter of are you satisfied with the card knowing its limits or are you like many of us ocn members that have a "the best or bust motto" lol
5850 should be running any game on mostly any res for a while at least. i wouldnt worry about it

I definitely have that motto which is why I will probably send back the 5850 because nobody has changed my mind well enough yet

I have 2 5850's CF BE and i did the dirt benchmark test today and everything was maxed out at 1920x1080 and i got avg 50 fps and no lower then 41 fps on my test. So I mean I gotta say they are truly worth the it. I am not mad, but I am going to upgrade to a 5970x2 come spring.

Coming from a 4870 that is going to be a pretty big step up. Not to mention these overclocked get right up next to the 5870. I think you'll be happy, screw the value.

imho the 5850 is a better card. Far cheaper for not much of a performance loss (and that's not taking OC'ing into account!)
I agree with Ch33z (even if he's a right-wing nut case
) ... I'm much more interested in the 5850 myself (well, two of them actually) because at the same clocks (which is easily attainable from what I've seen) it's really only slightly slower than the 5870, and costs significantly less.

Suffice to say, I'd keep it if I'z you.

5850 Black Edition is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced.

Refuse the package from UPS when it comes and Newegg will give you a full refund (assuming you bought it on Newegg).

Really? Is it really that demanding?

cry for the $50 price difference and u could've had the 5870
send it back!
to bes honest with you yes you well just for the simple fact its not dirX 11 return it wait trust me
maybe you can try selling it on ebay kekeke
This is how I look at the picture. Take a lesser card oc it, beat the living $hit out of the 5870 with the oc and be proud! I took a 4830 and was on par with a stock 4870!

If you don't oc, all you see is around 10FPS more in games

Still not satisfied? I usually buy a card that can do about a year maxing games out and then upgrade. In that amount of time the new cards are better, faster, stronger and will be worth saving that cash. Is over 100 bucks worth the extra 10 FPS gain? If it is, your a true OCN member that will have an empty pocket lol. On a serous note, it will be fine for a long time and won't see a difference.

Note: I have noticed it is best to get the mid range card(best bang for buck) and keep upgrading and selling cards then to spend it all on one card.
