I am planning on adding watercooling to my 7970 lightnings as I am moving up from Trifire to Quadfire. Any idea if these blocks are any good. The ek ones are the only ones I could find for the Lightning PCB. I heard that ek isn't the best and that nickel plating sucks. Has ek improved with their blocks and does Nickel Acetal make any difference over nickel?

If these blocks do suck should I just try and sell the lightnings and get reference GPUs for this?

Keep the lightnings. EK had problems with their nickel plating but they have fixed it. I would make sure to buy the CSQ models (I know some think they are ugly) and if you can, get copper.
Nickel "acetal" just means that the second half of the waterblock is see-through.

Don't get their nickel. It's not a question of "if" but "will" in regard to the nickel corroding.

Just buy the EK block and run a coolant with some anti-corrosive in it. I've never had a problem with any of mine. Just pulled my blocks apart after 2 years and had no corrosion, growth, etc. over that span I ran feser one, primochill coolant, and am about to check out white dragon nano fluid.

There is only one block that fits the Lightning ... it only comes in one type.

Alright I think I'll get the lightning blocks. Do I need a crossfire connector for them? I remember having one for my watercooled 680s that went from block to block. This is what I had for my 680s.\

Nah er they're not called a bridge. Just use a d-plug or a sli interconnect. There's plenty to choose from in the sli fittings category.
