GPU or OS problem?

473 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Sidious
Ok so my mate has a DELL (i know i know....lol)

And he has a 6200 (i know....lol) and the comp works fine when the gpu isnt in, however when you put the gpu in it goes as far as the windows loading screen, then after that it goes black and crashes. Any ideas on what could be up with it?

Thanks Iced.

Sounds like it'd be a driver issue. Uninstall drivers and reload them. Either that, try popping the 6200 in and loading windows in safe mode.
Cant install or uninstall drivers cos i cant get in windows, even in safe mode

Even with his integrated? I'd tell you to backup his stuff and do a clean install then.

How do you know that the comp works fine when the GPU isn't in if you can't see what's on the monitor?

nah his intergrated is fine, everything works fine. However, you cant disable intergrated in the BIOS so i think that may be the confliction. But then it would work at all right?

Thanks so far, Iced

But you just said the integrated works fine, so why can't you get into Windows?

Disable your integrated VIA the Device Manager in windows if you Can Get in I guess. If that GPU is not working when put in, try another comp to be sure. when my card was defective when it arrieved, I could get into windows sometimes but when I did massive artifacting and sooner or later my monitor would just say No Signal. Also, it was a GeForce 7950 GT OC but windows was unable to detect the name of the card. Try putting that 6200 in and but boot using the onboard gfx. see if you can see the name of the card or the information about it in Device Manager or something.

I orignally thought it was a driver issue but if it wont even start up with the card in it might be GPU related.
IT does start up with the GPU in, just crashes after windows load up screen.

I can get into windows with intergraed, but what use is that? Can i still install drivers through intergrated

if you cant disable the intergrated graphics in the bios then check the motherboard for a jumper. Thats hwo it was done on older motherboards. there is a jumper somewhere that you need to switch to disable onboard graphics.

Yah and you can do drivers and such on the integrated graphics card. The only thing is that if you do, if you disable it your screen is gone, I'd try removing the drivers for it though, because they could be colliding with your video card drivers
