GPU running 3d clocks @idle

I have no games currently running and according to cpu-z, my clocks are at their 3d settings instead of 2d.

How can I fix this?

I didn't know Nvidia cards downclocked? Mine doesn't.

They do now. When you are on desktop they downclock to save power when in game they go back to normal clocks. Mine does it

Any helpful advice? Temps are @43c, usually they're at 34.

Have you tried the latest drivers? Like I said, I've NEVER seen Nvidia cards do this anyway. But I've also been out of the loop for a while.

Currently running 191.07

Don't think this should be a driver issue.
my GTX 295 downclocks all the time, you could probalby edit the bios???
Downclocking saves power it doesn't hurt anything when your browsing the desktop.
I don't want my clocks to be set at 3D when I'm @idle, gpu temps rise and there is just no reason for it. This is really starting to upset me.

Someone must know a fix?
This may not apply to you but when I use rivatuner on my card, it stays at 3d clocks all the time. Now that I use MSI Afterburner it goes to 2d on the desktop, maybe that's your problem?
Im on the 195.55 drivers and I have my 285GTXs in SLI. And when I go back to desktop the first card will down clock but the other will not. Im going to try the new 195.62 drivers from guru3D I will let you know if this fixes it for me.

I don't use either of those programs.

Just a side note: I've been on the 191.07's for a while now and the clocks have NEVER been at 3d @idle. Today is the first time this has happened to me.

Probably because cpu-z and gpu-z show the requested clock speeds and not the actual clock speeds. So it in fact might be at the 2d clocks, but they still show 3d performance clocks. Use some sort of hardware monitoring that is included with rivatuner or precision to see your actual clocks.

well seing as you have an EVGA card, I'd say get evga precision and check your clocks in there to make sure, but maybe some random applications make them run 3D clocks simply restart you pc to get rid of random applications in the equation, happened to me before
, well no harm in trying right

I agree, restarting might fix the problem. I want a long term solution though. Something is causing it to force 3d clocks @idle, and I want to know what that is.

I'm 100% sure the GPU is @3d clocks because I can tell by the temp. My normal idle temp is 33-35c, and it's currently at 43c.

Restarted my PC and clocks are still @3D at idle.

I really need help with this.

I do not want to leave my gpu at 3d settings at idle.
