Ive got the VTX3D HD 7870 Black edition, which is one of the Tahiti LE versions. Its a pretty great card, but ive noticed the GPU reading in afterburner just goes up and down constantly in almost all games.

For example, this is after running the new Unigine Valley ultra benchmark:

The GPU usage goes from around 65% to 98-100% all the time. Even when rendering things that arent moving.
The framerate stays constant even with this.

My CPU never really got above 70% on any core, so it shouldnt be due to bottlenecking.
Im using catalyst 12.11.

Whats causing this to happen?

First, update your catalyst we're over 13.x now.

max out power control to +20% to avoid clock throttling.
