My name is Steve and I am a "stay at home dad" at the moment. I have 4 kids, all boys, and they are a handful! I try to keep some time open for helping people with computer problems, both locally, and online. I have been building my own computers since I was 11 years old, and have never purchased a retail machine, except for a few laptops, second hand. My goal at this forum is to assist people with their computer problems, but also to admire the knowledge and intelligence of fellow computer buffs! Hope I can help a few of you!

I've never owned an Asus laptop, but I have owned several other ASUS products, and I have to say, their quality control isn't what it was almost a decade ago. Do you have any USB peripherals connected, or perhaps a PCMCIA card in? I have an older HP Compaq nx7010 who's USB ports don't work, so I bought a cheap Rosewill PCMCIA 4 port add in card; believe it or not, somehow this card affects my network. Maybe it's conflicting with my integrated wifi card or something, but SOMEHOW it makes my DSL modem lock up! When I pull the card, the network works perfectly.

So, anyways, what do you have plugged into the laptop. if anything? It could be anything from the hard drive to the onboard sound, it's hard to tell.
